Meetings and Emptiness

Posted 05-30-2011 at 04:21 AM by eddie73

I have been going to meetings for several months now. I do feel that I have gained something from them. But I am tired of them. I could almost predict the script of the chair each night. I can almost predict the words spoken from the floor as well. It is a lunar way to round off the day. I wish I could say otherwise but I cant. I am taking a break from the rooms for a while. I will continue to pray to my higher power and stay on the sober path, one day at a time. But the meetings are out.

Eddie I'm sorry for your experience with meetings. I have found meetings to be somewhat varied where I live. Do you read the Big Book? have a sponsor? What about just inviting some sober friends out socially for awhile away from the meeting format? I know that AA has helped so many, but I say whatever you find helpful on your sober path embrace it. I, too am tired. Some AA folks are quite the preachers, but I have found a few kindred spirits there and that is what I hold most dear and precious these days. Peace to you.

    Hi there Irish Colleen,

I have gone to meetings and done chairs. (not many). I feel a lot of frustration at the meetings, almost as if it is a club for people that cannot function in reality. So yeah, I am moving around different meetings, its hard to not be disillusioned with recovery and the way I feel, but I've got no choice but to carry on.

Meeting are as important as our drug of choice was {alcohol
or drugs** I never skipped a day for over 38 years ** except for 3 days in jail for public intox**

I use to love to go to the bars every now and then I would
go to a new one. The same thing with going to meetings find a new one but always have a home group and share the meeting, make coffee and make the new comer feel welcome.
