Things I Hated About Drinking

I wanted to make this list before all of the miserable things about drinking left my mind and the seductive idea of 'a drink' started to enter.
  • Waking up and wanting to drink. Sometimes I'd start drinking in the morning. Sometimes, I'd force myself to wait until a 'reasonable' hour. It sucked spending all day waiting for a drink, not really wanting anything else.

Things I Will Do Instead/Recovery Strategies

I think that it's important to think about what I am going to do instead of drinking. I want to fill the time I used to spend drinking with activities that will help to insure my long-term sobriety. I also need to develop coping skills to deal with the emotions/problems I otherwise would have drank away.
  • Post on SoberRecovery. I will reach out for support throughout and especially when I feel like I really need it. I'll spend time helping others to quit. I'll read others' posts

Complete Abstinence

For me, I know that in order to quit, I really need to give it up entirely. Moderation is not something that I am successful at. I have failed at that over and over and over, so it is time for a new method.

Alcohol is seductive to me. One drink feels good. It makes me want another and another until Iíve had too many. Again. It never makes me really feel better though. I drink until passing out and somehow, I still never seem to achieve the feelings of happiness Iím hoping...

My Reasons for Quitting

My Reasons to Quit Drinking:
  • Physical Health. I don't want to be at risk for problems from drinking too much. I don't want to wake-up hungover and sick. I don't want to be so busy drinking that I don't eat well and exercise enough. I've started putting on a little weight from drinking too much lately and I don't like that.

  • Emotional Well-Being. I think drinking has taken a toll on my emotional well being. I drink rather than dealing with my problems. I drink
