My dentist was able to see me last night after work. He says I need a $1000+ root canal, which he no longer does so he did a referral. The big problem is that none of the ones he referred me to takes my discount plan! I'm seriously considering just having the damn thing pulled and be done with it. It's hardly causing me any pain this morning, so I think I'll just play it by ear for now. If it starts to really hurt I'm just going to get it pulled. I had a molar on the other side pulled a few years ago and I don't really miss it.

I hate having to deal with this stuff, but it's still better than drinking

Have a great Thursday, gang!

FBL, could you just maybe call an oral surgeon in your plan and ask if he'd honor a referral from a different doctor?

It is good to see everybody!

I am fine--just haven't gotten out to McDonalds in the last few days!

Hi O's,

((FBL)), hey, that's a man hug...not that there is anything wrong with it. I hope all this health ins stuff sorts out in your favor.

RZ, congrats on the fraction.

Gilmer, there was a Mickey D's drop in stock...to me now, you absence was evident .

Toots, Glee and Itch Man...I had an incident just a few days ago about taking time and not reacting...it worked out just fine...I may try to cut/paste the thread I started on it on newcomers.
Here it is, if interested:

Mags, so true. I am glad I feel willingness and remain teachable in recovery. I do believe that a formula works...there may not be a wrong or right formula...just having one that you follow is the important part, especially for the difficult times...at least that is the case for me. The last 3 AA mtgs that I have attended have been soooo powerful - I didn't NEED to go to any of them. I simply wanted to go...and the result is a stronger and more secure toolbox for when I may need to dig in there.

Hey, O's...ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL? FNB, my game picking sober peep from last year took up the cause and PM'd me a heads up. I will post the link below for any would be soothsayers to join the frey.

Haha, sorry for the homework-laden post. Hey, recovery is an ACTION program, right.

GO STEELERS.....

Carlos

Hi Overs, love all of your posts! I'm finding it challenging time-wise to keep up with Marchers of 2013, Undies, Overs and Newcomers. I could and occasionally do feel like I'm spending the day here :-)

By the time I finish reading and being inspired, my failing memory is a challenge. Suffice it to say that I think of all of you as I read your posts and send my heartfelt thoughts for all of you having challenges of one sort or another. One of the things that strikes me about the Overs is the normality and joy in living a mindful, sober life.

Well, I found a local root canal specialist that will take my discount plan, so I may go with that option. My regular dentist prescribed an antibiotic that will hopefully help until I make up my mind. I didn't go to the dentist for 20+ years, so I guess I'm paying for it now

I had a root canal done a few years ago and it wasn't bad at all...just took a lot of time. The tooth was too far gone and I ended up having it pulled anyway. At least my dentist didn't charge me for it.

I had root canal once but the injections wernt numbing the area as it turned out to be infected the dentist should have saw that instead she says if it hurts its proberly
infected ?? I'm like you couldn't tell ?

I had around 4-5 numbing injections that should of been the proverbial red flag but no the dentist continued to drill after each injection which was torture & is why I shiver when I think of root canal

Congrats FBL

Evening overs

I love all the posts I read here too! I feel like I am home when I'm in the overs, does that make sense? Though I may go visit around , hopefully have some helpful words of encouragement or input, I come back here to my 'family'. I hope you all don't mind being classed as this, I mean it in the most complimentary way.

I've been to meetings regarding the pub the last two nights and you know, it was nice not to have to go anywhere this evening.

Things aren't getting better at work. It is really in trouble and I can see some department closures imminent. It's so frustrating, as we give 100% but if there aren't good management in place, it's can be like the proverbial house of cards. Though there are many other aspects of our losses, too!

I've just bought an acer Japanese maple tree/bush, only 1 foot high at the moment but with a bit of growth behind it, it will be lovely. I'm going to put it in a pot until we decide where we want it, hubby doesn't know I got it yet! Lol. He's always liked them, though.

There was an event on at Brigg garden centre, got all the Christmas decorations out, they do their Christmas wonderland upstairs and it's usually very popular. They were giving 20% off tonight and free mince pies and mulled wine! even the 20% couldn't lure me from my home tonight.

Mags, I feel honored to be considered family. Both 2013 Marcher's and Overs feel like home to me. It feels very much like we have conversations and as we get further out from our drinking days, I think our lives are generally much more joyful plus we can handle the challenges so much better. I no longer feel that my emotions are like the roller coaster of old.

Dentists! I dread going. None of my teeth came in with enamel on them so I have at least 15 crowns and some large number of fillings.

Goodnight, Wolfie (and other Overs)!

Hi overs - My reaction vs response reference was over something that bugged me at work. I needed to study for a compliance exam, and asked if I could use my own vacation time. The director said no because it was a same-day request.

My reaction was that it was ridiculous for the director to deny me time off when I needed it for something work-related, yet give me 5 hours off for a 1 1/4 hour test. I didn't need the time off on test day; I needed it to prepare for the test the day before!

My response? Well, at first I reacted. I said I was very disappointed. However - and this is progress - I didn't get into the mechanics of why I was disappointed. Instead I complained to someone I don't work with. Then - and this is also progress - I stopped complaining and let it go. In active addiction I would have probably perpetuated this injustice on and on, and it would have likely become grounds for me to look for another job, same thing somewhere else.

At AA during the discussion about response vs reaction someone said, I can never trust my first reaction - or second or third! I could totally relate to that. I need to cool off and think it through. It may never become second nature for me to react calmly, but I do have the tools to respond appropriately.

Gilmer - Good to see you keeping McD in business again!

FBL - There's no escaping death, taxes - or dental work. I hate sitting for long stretches in the chair too, but if you can save your tooth it'll be worth it.

Saskia - Glad you're finding time to post between all the activities you're running to.

Mags - I was looking forward to lounging on the couch all day, as well. It's me, seltzer water, SR, and soon a book and bad TV.

Carlos - The game is on in the other room. I don't know a thing about football but I do know GO PATS!!

I'm fading here... Hi Toots, Itch and SW! Where's Drake?

Reaction vs response. I'm very much a poker face, believe it or not! I hold my cards close to my chest. This was years of well taught from my mum. Hide your feelings, bite your tongue, don't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing! My mum was very proud lady.

So response for me is easy, outwardly. Inside Armageddon could be happening but no one would know, and I was so used to it, it was the norm. It's quite funny, really. At work there are the 'six foot six year olds' who pull girls pigtails (metaphorically) and love to make the other two ladies scream by making them jump. They don't even try it on me anymore as, when they did, I just said hi. They looked the fool. I'm not skittish, or whatever makes us jump in the air if a balloon is burst behind us.

I'm going to read the link itchy put on, over the weekend when I have more time, I think I can learn something from this.

Enjoy the mountains Andy, a lovely time of year for a visit there.

Gilmer, were they all wearing black armbands at McDs thinking you must have passed???? good to have you back !

Carlos, in that situation I would have just felt sorry for the woman for her ignorance. It's funny, my mum or my dad could both say exactly the same thing, hearing it from one I would feel one reaction, hearing it from the other I would feel a completely different reaction.

Glee, it is so much healthier to be able to let go and not allow the frustrations fizz inside isn't it!

Zip, good news on the foot,

FBL, I've been pretty lucky with my teeth, but I do feel for you.

Hugs all

Good morning, Overs!

A rainy day at the old folks' home :-)

RZ, good to hear your foot is progressing!

FBL, I hope your health insurance issue gets resolved very soon.

Andy, enjoy the mountains. For me oceans and mountains are close to being tied for favorites.

Have a good one.
