You are not going to believe this, but MY DAD DIED IN THE NIGHT!
What a shock! But it's hard to be too sad, because he had a fantastic day yesterday. The male caretaker came over at 3pm and took him out for a long walk up the highway to Starbucks, and they enjoyed a cup of coffee. When they left, it started pouring rain, so they ducked into KFC for awhile.
When they got home, my dad was lucid and told me all about what a great time they had. He had dinner and they watched baseball on TV till about 9, when he went to bed.
At midnight my husband bought the caretaker a pizza, and he said my dad was snoring away. He looked to be sleeping soundly at 8 when I went in. The caretaker asked when he should wake him up, and I said 9:30.
When he went in at 9:30, he told us there was no pulse. We tried to feel his pulse, and noticed that his arms were cold and stiff! We were dumbfounded!
So we called 911. The police came over and checked his body thoroughly and concluded there was no foul play and no need for an autopsy.
The funeral home will be here in an hour to take his body. I have to go over there at 1:30 with some info and his suit for burial.
Now I have to alert his ladyfriend and my cousins that he has died. We will have the funeral Mass down here in VA; then the funeral home will transport him to his burial plot in PA and we will have a small graveside service there for the relatives.
Thank you guys again for your support! This timing is pretty unbelievable! It doesn't seem real!

(((Gilmer)))! I'm so sorry! I wouldn't be surprised if you are still in shock. Sometimes things do happen for the best for the person involved but I also know that you will probably go through many different feelings. We are, as always, here for you. If you have difficulties processing at times, we will be more than willing to be a set of ears and helping hands.
Wow, Gilmer Girl, you sound relieved. And though I don't know the full back story on what you've been going through with your dad, I think relief is completely understandable. And a great last day for him is a blessing. Hugs to you.
Day 3 for me (I need to change the date in my signature). Regarding what I wrote earlier about fearing that I didn't deep-down want to quit badly enough, I had a thought today that whether that's true or not, we all do lots of things in life that we don't WANT to do, but nonetheless must be done. I even typed a couple sentences to that effect out on my computer at work while I had it in my head. So that's the thought I'm going to carry with me.
Budd, thanks for what you said earlier. And anyone else I didn't thank by name.
Hugs to all. I might type a little more before bedtime.

We've just returned from Chicago and I just logged on to see the post about Gilmer's dad. I really am so sorry. I know you're in shock right now, friend, but stay close as I'm sure you will experience a range of emotions over the coming weeks. xoxo
Good morning Marchers, I'm late this morning .
Gilmer I'm shocked for you, you dear girl. Though I don't have a strong faith myself I do think this demonstrates something amazing about God/Higher Power. Take care Gilmer, be very nurturing of yourself right now.
Hugs all round Marchers.
