Still the Weekender Sober Thread June 18...
I just love baby stingrays. So cute.
I caught their pappy yesterday.
Was like reeling in a half sheet of plywood
broadside. Against the tide, no less. A real beast.
Once, in the Catskills of PA, I visited a tourist trap
candy store. Barrels of candy. Pay by the pound,
mix and match, bag your own. I purchased two pounds of
gummi stingrays and sharks. Awesome. They were blue and white.
They also had jelly beans of every flavor imaginable.
Flavors that only a madman could invent. Bubblegum, popcorn, tuna salad, hot dog & mustard, puke, pizza, ketchup and poop.
No fooling.
I personally prefered the bacon & eggs variety, myself.
What's worse than V8 and toothpaste?
When I was a little kid, mom gave me a lozenge for my sore throat. Strong ones, for a youngster.
Shortly thereafter I was given a Genoa salami and mustard
sandwich for lunch.
Cherry/menthol/eucalyptus/greasy salami and mustard.
Mix it up with a 103F fever and a glass of strawberry quick.
Yummy! I still have nightmares over that one.
Let's talk Batman.
One Christmas, a hundred years ago,
I received a toy Batbelt, complete with
Batarang, Batrope, Batgun, etc.
My first toss of my new Batarang hit Grandfather square
on the forehead. I was warned, not smacked; after all it was
Christmas.
Later that week I grew tired of shooting those suction
cup darts from my Batgun. (We didn't have nerfguns back then).
Being a creative little kid, I figured out that if I shoved a Tinkertoy
stick into my spring-loaded Batgun, it shot out much harder.
Mom was standing on a chair, arranging baking trays, pots
and pans in the cabinet high above the wall oven.
Innocently, I placed the muzzle of my Batgun to her behind
and squeezed one off. There was a bloodcurdling shriek,
followed by the thunderous crash of a dozen metal pans
hitting the linoleum. My bad. I ran for my life, in sheer terror.
A couple smacks later, it was all over.
Funny thing, the next morning, my beloved Batbelt was gone.
Dad told me I had carelessly misplaced it. Yeah, ok dad.
Still wearing Batboxers in its memory.
Ruby, I hope Rubyette's party is a fun, memorable occasion!"
Enjoy!
Are you putting out bowls of jelly beans?
I heard they have Gain flavored ones on the shelves.
Mountain Breeze and Tropical Garden.
Go with the Tropical. The artificial kiwi flavor
hides the soapy taste very well.
I'd better go to bed now.
Shouldn't have had 7 cups of coffee this morning.
Vacation over tomorrow. Prepare for arrival
on the surface of the sun, returning to work.
Goodnight.

I'm going to answer things page by page. Sorry ArtFriend, I did say I needed my eyes checked. I thought that was a cat. My bad, as the kids would say.
Behan, I'm glad that your outing went so well.
I'm moving on to page 10 now. What mysteries lie there?

Speaking of foulness, I toured a WWII secret sub repair facility. ACtually pretty amazing, the doors were two feet thick and double doors - nuclear protected. It was in a hidden bay. They carved a tunnel into the mountain. Very intricate inside with a lot of tunnels and storage etc. The kept nukyular stuff there also. Here is the entrance...
Reminds me of the infamous Maginot Line, an entire underground city with fortifications to defend against an anticipated German ground invasion. A spectacular failure on the part of the French.

I remember photos of the Maginot line.
Angie, Well done on 8 weeks! That's great!
I have one giant reminder of why drinking isn't a great idea. OMG!!!! Mr. Ruby is drunk. He'd totally deny it if I said anything but he smells like stale beer and he's slurring and going on and on about something. I'm just nodding my head, kinda, and really trying not to just yell "shut up!!!!!". And we thought we were hiding our intoxication from people? Get real

Poop flavored jelly beans? How much coffee did you have? I'm not putting out jelly beans. My kids eat too much candy but they won't touch jellybeans. Odd that way.
I'm going to get some ice cream. Then bed. It will be a long day tomorrow. Mr. Ruby is working tomorrow so won't be around for the party which is a blessing, actually.

Cosmos and go to sleep.

If you enjoy Cosmos, have you seen "Connections" or "The Day The Universe Changed" with James Burke? You may enjoy them. And your mention of Cosmos reminded ms of them. Funny and informative. History of science things, put together in an interesting and unique way.

Did someone mention saturday morning coffee ?
Don't mind if i do
overcast and a smidgeon of rain about, more mizzle but not so misty ..
Looked up the difference of daylight from here at blackpool as compared to torquay … looks like we get 20 mins more daylight at the beginning and end of the day .
Blackpool is 4:46 am till 9:41 pm, torquay is 5:06 till 9:24 .
Maybe if i stay sober next year i'll get up to the orkneys and experience 4:05 am till 10:30 pm at the height of summer , we can but hope ..

Good morning!
I think I might have suffered a little PWSD (post-work stress disorder) yesterday. Sometimes those people just drive me crazy!
Feeling better now.
Having curried rice with peas and sweet onion, and iced yerba maté to drink.
Norway has a chess tournament going on with most of the top ten players involved, so there should be some good games for me to watch or review this weekend.
Also putting some physical exercise and meditation back into my regimen (as if I ever had a regimen!).
I've been bingeing on ice cream the past few weeks, so I will have to put a stop to that if I'm going to just stuff my gob mindlessly while internetting. Too much sat fat and sugar for my health.
So far I have 58 days of continuous sobriety this time.
Hope everyone is doing well!
