Thursday...
Started my 5 mile run under cloudy skies... 1/2 mile mark it began to rain...
1 mile mark it began to pour... 2 mile mark I am drenched...
My shoes are full of water and they weight 5 pounds each, lol...
3 mile mark no more rain... the sun starts to come out...
4 mile mark it is scorching hot under the sun... the sidewalks are DRY...
I am drenched with rain and sweat now... shoes still water-logged...
After 5+ miles my a@@ is seriously KICKED.
Wow... great run!

Monday afternoon... tough run... at the 3.5 mile mark it was all I could do to keep putting one foot in front of the other... one foot at a time... I wanted to stop sooooo bad... I kept saying that if I can do this then not doing drugs & alcohol is a piece of cake... keep going... whatever it takes... I got the entire 5 miles completed... it might have been the most satisfying run ever...

Thursday 5 mile run.
I thought a lot about being clean & sober during my run today, mostly about how there is nothing I genuinely miss about my using/drinking days. I can do everything, and alot more, that I did back then... now, all without drugs or alcohol. Why the **** did I ever even put myself through that nonsense...?
Running gives my mind a chance to explore what's right about life today.

I wanted to post a reply to you, Pixy... and I wasn't gonna run today... but I said to myself if I'm gonna post a reply to you... I may as well go run 5 miles and post that as well, lol. Thanks!
I can easily remember my first 1 mile run a few years ago... I nearly threw up... I couldn't breathe... it was all I could do to finish it... I was sore for days afterwards.
Sunday 5 mile run... nice breeze blowing.

Twenty lengths, run 5 miles. It all works. My feet and legs are not keeping up any more but I am doing some serious walking and it helps me sleep like a baby. We don't have designated or lit paths around here. We do have some really great dear paths through the woods down to the river. Keeps me in shape and in focus.

Went to the weight room yesterday afternoon, long fulfilling workout.
I like working out with the high school kids because I think it is incredible that they spend time in the gym... unlike my own high school days which were a blur of dope smoke and wine.
I can't believe how much this exercise program helps me sleep. I'm ready to go to sleep as soon as I hit the bed and I sleep solid as a rock all night long.

Greetings, my first post. I am two days sober and determined to get back into shape. Over the past 8 years I have gained 65 pounds (I'm 6'5") and my BMI is around 32. My last substantial exercise related accomplishment was an Ironman triathlon in 2001 and goal is to get back to that level of fitness. So, if it's okay, I am going to try and be a regular poster here.
This has been a great read and thanks to all for posting.
