Brooksie and Gilmer, congratulations to you both. Proud of you "Ladies"
Did I get that right this time Gilmer? HAHAHHA
Getting on a plane in 90 minutes for Amsterdam. Last time I was there it was 1973, hair to the crack of my butt and travelling Europe in a VW bus with 2 other stinky hippies.
Best 11 month summer of my life.
This trip should be somewhat more subdued!!
Chat when I return.

Good day friends,
Returned home from 2 weeks in Europe on Friday nite. Exhausted but really did have a great trip to Paris, Bruges and Amsterdam.
As I mentioned, we travelled with my cousin and his wife. Both drinkers.
I saw so much of my previous self in him it was uncanny. Around lunch time he was getting anxious. Wanted to have lunch so that he could have 2 or 3 glasses of wine. Then fine for a couple of hours and had to stop for a rest, more wine or beer.
Pre-dinner drinks, drinks with dinner. You have all seen this movie.
I was so frustrated. The time and expense of sitting with him while he drank was too much for me. A coke was about $10 in Paris. We went our seperate ways for about 4 days off and on. So relaxing, we covered so much more ground, stopped for a quick sandwich and carried on.
Seeing his moods change as the days progressed made me so much more determined to abstain and live a sober life. The liquor controlled his Europe vacation. Told him when and where he was going to be and for how long.
Very freakin sad to think I lived so many years doing the exact same thing. NEVER AGAIN. I know I am only to think in terms of 24 hours but that doesnt work for me. I have to think long term.
As I round the corner to 11 months on the 12th, I thank you all for your support and kind words. Congrats to all of you that are perservering with me. Well done. Kick ass and take no prisoners. Proud of you.
Rick

Oh, Rick, I'm so relieved that the vacation was anything but a trigger! We really were slaves, weren't we? Thank the Lord that's over!

So glad you enjoyed your trip. I felt exactly like that after my summer holiday. It was all inclusive so usually I wouldn't have strayed far from hotel due to missing drinks but I explored the island and had some real fun!
I was thinking of taking my hubby to Amsterdam next year, people say it's really expensive?
Good to have you back Rick, one year is now in spitting distance!!

Welcome back home Rick! I agree that it's a sad way that we were spending our lives before. I'm so happy for all of us that we are no longer tied to alcohol.
I just returned from my Italy trip. It was perfect and beautiful. We were the only non drinkers at the BnB, and my husband was questioned several times by other guests about his reasons, including being questioned across a table of people if he was "a friend of Bill?". The questions don't bother him because he's not an alcoholic, and I was fine letting him deal with it. It's funny that people always assume it's him with the problem instead of me.
I never felt like I was missing out when others were drinking. It only made them act dumb anyway.
Good to be home.

Glad you had a good time, too, Siesta! Why are people so nosy to perfect strangers? I've never understood that!

Hi All, I just wanted to say hi...I haven't posted in this thread before, I am here with you as a November/13 quitter, today is 11 months for me...it has been a big month and I need to acknowledge it out loud, so to speak.
I can feel the anticipation of my 1st quitters anniversary creeping up on me.
Longest I have been sober in many years.
Take care. x

Welcome Notimetolose and congrats on your 11 month milestone.
My 11 months was yesterday. My kids and significant others and my two precious little grandsons were all here for the weekend. Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. Absolute bedlam in the house for a couple of days but so so much fun and laughter. And the best thing was that I remember it all and woke early to enjoy another day.
I love sobriety. Man I love sobriety. I can't look back on the hours and days and weeks and months I wasted guzzling beer with other drunks at the local saloon. I can only look forward to the wonderful memories yet to be created.
All the best to all the November gang as we march towards one year clean and sober.

Congratulations, Rick! Sounds like a fantastic weekend. In the US, many of us had a (minor) holiday weekend, too: Columbus Day. My son had Monday off from school.

It's no Thanksgiving; but, hey! We'll take it!

This time of the month is always exciting, because a bunch of us have milestones clustered around this time. Mine is coming up this week, too.

I'll be right here bragging!

Welcome Notime!

Rick, I love your positive posts!

Hi Gilmer and Apophylite!

I had a great Colombus holiday and was able to have dinner with both of my boys. They are so grown up now it scares me. The youngest is dating a cheerleader and it was really cute to see him get embarrassed about it
My oldest is considering taking a new path in life and we're excited for him. Loved having them together for a night.
Congrats to everyone hitting 11 months!! I'm so proud of all of us!!

Great that you got to spend good times with your two sons, Siesta! Excited to hear that your oldest might be branching out into a new direction.
