Ain't no way I'm going naked on a mountain peak in January. 2300 feet get's cold enough for me as it is. Still warmer than Wisconsin though, which I find funny.
Good Morning All,
Today marks five months of sobriety for me! I am so grateful to be sober and for all of the friendship, love and support I received during my quest for sobriety.
I hope to pick up a 5 month chip tonight, but if I have to wait a few days that's okay too. I am still working on not being a hurry. It's amazing how that adds to my feelings of contentment.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Congratulations Tanja! Your milestone truly calls for a spectacular sober New Years eve celebration. For me, its nice to be looking forward to the start of a New Year and not dreading it :-)
Thank you Phil, Dee and General I am looking forward to a sober New Year. Unfortunately, my nephew (only 24 years old) is struggling with alcoholism. We attended a AA meeting on Friday. I was so proud of him because he is shy and quiet like me, but despite that he introduced himself as a newcomer. He has a lot to lose if he doesn't start working on his drinking. He has a young son that is only 7 months old. I plan on attending AA meetings with him.
My plans for New Years Eve are much the same as every year. Just staying in, having a tasty meal and renting a few movies. What are everyone else's plans?

Tanja, I'm sure you'll be strong and demonstrate living proof to your nephew that the booze can be beat - there's a lot at stake for him with his baby, you can help him if anyone can. There's a saying in educational psychology - "The best person to teach a 9 year-old is a 10 year-old". I wish you and your nephew and your great-nephew all the best.
For New Year's Eve, we're having a curry night and maybe a fire in the garden so the kids can toast marshmallows. A long walk on New Year's day, visit Mum's/Grandma's grave, then a full roast dinner. Jug of iced water on the table.
Feels really, really, good to be almost 15 months sober. 447 days. Wow.
It's not the end of it, I understand that, but for me, it is the end of the beginning.

Tanja, General, Geralt, Gerb, Dee and all Sobertobers:
For New Years Eve and in 2013 we are going to try and begin to live the Optimist's Creed by Christopher Larsen
The Optimist Creed Christoper Larsen
I promise myself:
•To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.
•To talk health, happiness, & prosperity to every person I meet.
•To make all my friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them.
•To look at the sunny side of everything & make my optimism come true.
•To think only of the best, to work only for the best, & to expect only the best.
•To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.
•To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
•To wear a cheerful expression at all times & give a smile to every living creature I meet.
•To give so much time to improving myself that I have no time to criticize others.
•To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, & too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
•To think well of myself & to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud word, but in great deeds.
•To live in the faith that the whole world is on my side, so long as I am true to the best that is in me.
I wish your nephew all the best Tanja---
Happy New Year Everyone

Happy New Years' Eve, October folks! I haven't logged in in ages, but NYE is reminding me that being sober is maybe still a different way to be in our world. Having a quiet evening at home and looking forward to not being hung over tomorrow.
Here's to continued growth (and maybe prosperity and happiness) for all of us!

Happy New Year's Day Sobertobers!
Phil - That was a lovely poem. Just what I needed this a.m. Thank you so much for posting it!
Welcome NeverbeentoSpain! It's been a long time.
So glad to see some of our classmates still posting.
My New Year's Eve was spent with my sponsor at an AA meeting and then dinner afterwards. I have to say it was hands down the best New Year's Eve I have ever had! Today I am so grateful to be sober and working towards being the person I have always wanted to be.
Wishing you all a serene and happy New Year's Day and Year.

Happy New Year's guys. Remember me?! I remember you! :-)
I, like Sadsoul, can only say the past year has been drinking and not-drinking.
I am in AA pretty strongly now, and although I currently have over 2 weeks i have definitely jumped back on the train with enthusiasm. I need to be sober, I want to be sober, and I am happy every day when I wake up sober.
Posting here is a big step for me. Thanks for all you inspiring people! So glad to see you all doing well.
Big hug, Honeypie
