Weekender Thread 12 - 16th July 2018
I have to say I'm getting worried about Marley (our dog in my avatar)
We have a 3 year old English Setter, Marley.
We purchased him as an 8 week old puppy so he has been with us since the start.
A few months ago he snapped at my little nephew, snapped at his face and knocked off his glasses. I let it slide. Yesterday our neighbors were over with their 5 and 8 year old boys. Once again our dog showed his teeth and snapped at the 8 year old boy.
We are honestly very worried.
We leave Marley run free at home all day everyday.
We live in the coutryside so loads of space around the house.
He wears a petsafe collar to prevent him from being tempted to leave.
He is very excitable and very physical. He never stops running.
My daughter plays freely with the dog.
He has never showed any kind of aggressive behavior towards us nor my daughter, never. He seems to dislike other people’s children. I underline he was not being provoked. They just wanted to pet him and kindly, gently.
Once again, we are honestly very worried.
Probably time for professional help.

Good to have you back HaS!
Good grief! It is Monday morning already, where did the time go? Another of the many benefits of quitting drink is that for a long time the weekends seem to have a lot more hours in them in comparison to the drunken ones when I at least would spend the daytime recovering from the night before. I guess that effect is wearing off for me now but I won't be going back to drinking again.

Bad day for me today, cravings gone mad and one after the other since Breakfast. I even started looking at the cost of a room at the hotel less than half a mile away convincing myself I just needed a few days on my own and some space...but the reality is I am relapse planning and would be drinking today if I had access. Or maybe I wouldn’t if I could get out and about on my own for a day and manage this feeling...I don’t chuffing well know lol. 2.5 hours to bedtime, can’t come quick enough. No TV, internet not working well so sat here staring at the walls going stir crazy and being bitchslapped by my AV ain’t much fun!

Nope....getting out by yourself is probably also your AV's way of finding a way to relapse. And I know you feel awful, but hey, sometimes we have to sit with our feelings as I know you learn in rehab.
And this is when I use 'this too shall pass' and the Serenity prayer....even over and over. It will pass. And you are doing BRILLIANTLY.

I’m sorry today has been a struggle, MantaLady—but you have shown great shrewdness in discerning the subtle, secret underpinnings of relapse planning!
Today has actually been a milestone of growth!

Sorry your day is going poorly Manta.
From experience you really have to dig deep to beat the AV.
Just no matter what dont let it get the upper hand. Blank your mind, go back to a blank page and rationally go over it.
To overcome that mental obsession, which I had a little of last night btw, one has to root through the sober toolbox. I noticed that playing the tape forward so to speak and comfort eating (ice cream and peaches ) helped me. I found myself more or less alone at home with beer, wine and champagne in the fridge early last night. All of a sudden i began to have the illusion that I could have a couple...
I was a happy man this morning
Stay strong, today will pass !!

VMan. My dog is a Marley too!!
Made it through the weekend despite my ABF drinking around me. Wonderful and strange to see others drink and wonder what other people saw when they saw me drink....
Have a great day!!
