Here We Grow Again Weekender Feb 5 Pt 2
okay---- cleared snow from 3 properties, cleared some snow from the back and was able to tell every where the neighbors cat was prowling this morning - he's a good hunter.
The birds seemed to be waiting for me, I dumped some more bird seed...
which reminded me of a funny story - natchly.
Some years ago when I was living alone - "It happened on a dark stormy night"
I kept a bag of bird seed under the side board in the dining room. Being summer I didn't keep tabs on it or keep the feeders filled.
Now think of something you don't notice - especially being buzzed all the time - until it is overwhelmingly obvious.
So I notice these dark spots moving across the ceiling in the kitchen. Wha...?
With the help of my friend the internet, I discovered I had weevils. So as I start to track them I go into the dining room - GOLD! They was everywhere and on EVERYTHING. The wall was covered, the ceiling, floor, and they were on the move. Tracks leading into the pantry. You name it, there were weevils...
So I start searching the internet, my friend, to find out what to do. It seems the best solution was to get my shop vac out and suck the little buggers up.
For three days I kept the shop vac loaded and ready to go, if not more. I think it was actually plugged in in the middle of the kitchen for a week.
Then I discover every package of pasta, rice, cereal, you name it. Anything in the pantry, above the stove and kitchen cabinets that wasn't hermetically sealed had weevils in it. I was discovering weevils months later in things. Oh, I forgot to mention that they were breeding in the bag of bird seed I had stored in the house. An unwelcome bonus to the bird seed. It was obvious by the hundreds in the bag making their getaway... Origin of bird seed on the bag? Texas! Thank You Texas...
I did not use poison or spray anything, I just vacuumed them up - or down - as I hunted for them, or they just hunted themselves.
So, I learned a valuable lesson. Do not store bird seed inside the house. Or at least not for months during the summer. ESPECIALLY bird seed from TEXAS!
Brain's tip of the day.

Brain's tip of the day.
I thought it was Thursday for a minute when I first woke up.
I'm getting donuts on my way to work...can't resist chocolate glazed Krispy Kreme any longer! I'll let y'all know how they are!
Hi everyone. Brain, I feel your pain. Weevils in the bird seed, eh? Note to self, store outdoors. I've had moths in the kitchen. That was a pain but I discovered non toxic glue traps for them. Works.
Hi Della!
Behan, how was the spa?
Super cold here. Layers and layers of clothing. No way am I walking. Subway.

ha Mesa. I've had a sock or two magically appear from the bottom of a pant leg over the years. That's what we get for getting dressed in front of the dryer or just pulling clothes from a basket.
What do you say? Excuse me ma'am, your panties are showing?
I'm going through 45 minute presentations - live power point type stuff.
Reminds me of being in 'school'... oh, about a hundred or more training modules to digest. And that's only one part of the program.
Sun came out and the birds have gathered outside on the deck.
I noticed something. The difference between birds and dogs.
Dogs attack the food bowl then go after the small bits on the floor when the bowl is empty. The birds start at the individual 'seeds' on the periphery and work their way in. Much more efficient feeders.
They'll hop around searching for rogue seeds instead of just jumping into the pile.

Stupendous Weather on tap here through Thursday, next. Low 50s [10 C] as the high Temps in blazing Sun. That be Flannel Shirt-kinda Weather, and continued Snow melting.
In an indicator of unusually-good Weather, the Cranes were circling the Dog Park yesterday with their distinctive cries. 2x Groups of 50+ Birds. Being a tastefully-Recycled Gravel Pit w/lotsa Water, they like it as a Migratory stop.
The Ski Slopes of Telluride - way off in the distance in the Pic below - are claiming 240" [~6 Meters] of Snow thus far this Season. Good News for the dwindling CA Water Supply Runoff. Lake Mead, behind Hoover Dam, is/was down something like ~135' from max level. Just when you think Life is simple, it ain't. 'Early' Snow melt and Runoff means letting out more Water from Reservoirs to free up incoming Water Storage. This means Farmers don't get Water parsed out methodically throughout the Growing Season. This affects Crop Yields. And, Food Prices.
Dust blown in on the Jet Stream from W. China fell on these Mountains a few Years back. More Sunlight on dark, Solar-absorbing Dust meant earlier Snow Melt Runoff.

And you can imagine how I felt this morning when I opened my eyes and felt my body rested and not in turmoil with a cruddy moral and physical hangover. It was heavenly.

Oh, and endless Resource for Good Advice that I am, be sure to check for Static Cling before hitting the Streets. I recalled you saying last Weekend you were putting on a Hoodie and Sweats before you 'slapped some Paint on the Barn' to go out.
I'm still giggling over that one; hadn't heard it for Eons!

Sounds like you guys are getting hit with all kinds of weather over there in the America's. Although cold here, it has been a bright, spring day. The sun is slowly setting now.
LB, in light of the earlier picture of the sea scape you posted, may I recommend you watch a film called "The Field" (The Field (1990) - IMDb). It is actually one of my favourite films.
Need to bunk out of work early to take junior to the doc for a review appointment.
I saw an interesting documentary about the colourful life of my namesake the other evening. He was invited over to the states by Jackie Gleeson and socialised with writers such as Norman Mailer. He was eventually marginalised in New York due to his alcoholism. Died at 41 years.
Catch ye later good folks,
B

Good morning all!!! Hope you all had a great night. My little one decided he needed to get up 4 times last night. Blah I'm a little tired but what mom isn't 😉 I've got to do the dreaded grocery shopping today. I've been avoiding the grocery store like the plague but all my time is up and I have to go. I will get out of there without wine but it might be a struggle.
It was light until nearly 5:30am, not too long before I won't have to travel to and from work in the dark
Brendan Behan was 41, man!
I suppose attitudes around drinking and literary folks was different in the 1950s - they all seemed to be at it in those days
