I will not drink/drug today because (insert your reason)
..because it is not going to help.
I am desperately behind on two projects, and the ca-ca will likely hit the fan today and tomorrow. One project is salvageable, the other is not. Both clients are going to be disappointed in me. Letting people down and screwing something up are two of my most powerful triggers. But I know I am just going to have to face the music. Drinking is not going to help. It would just be a temporary dodge that leads nowhere but downward.
On some level I know I created this situation on purpose. An effort at self-sabotage. I am giving notice to the dealer inside my brain, that this will not work!
Take care everyone.

Congrats geniss!! You should be very proud of yourself-Quite an achievement! May I ask
what your major field of study is? I assume you’re going for a PhD? Just shows what you
can do when we get our minds straight!

4theboys: AWESOME! Congrats to you and your hubby. Keep it up, and keep posting here, if it helps. You are off to a great start.
Luckedog: Master's, actually. Gotta leave the PhD (if I decide to get one) for a few years. After I'm done with grad school I have a financial mess to clean up thanks to 10 years in college and a couple years doing dope. Indeed, I might even owe you money! I am studying geology, and more specifically paleontology/ biostratigraphy (which is the practice of finding the age of rocks based on their fossil content) as it relates to sea level change and how that can be applied to hydrocarbon exploration. That's right: Drill, baby, drill. LOL Never thought hippie lil me would be working for an oil company, but I love my research. And... GO POKES!
I will not drink or drug today because I have a chocolate creme pie with blackberries that I made all by myself, and it tastes way better than beer.

Nice gneiss, I have a BS in geology - Go Beavers. When I graduated it was the last time gasoline dipped below a dollar a gallon. In the late 80's the oil industry was shedding geologists like crazy. Everyone over fifty was retired out of the industry. I did a short stint in mining in Nevada but the price of silver tanked, and then I landed on the environmental side of things, groundwater remediation and the like. If I were you, I would sit for your RG as soon as you can. Oil guys and academics will tell you different, but it really adds to your career flexibility.
recycle: RG? Registered Geologist? I've heard of Professional Geologist (PG) certification, which I will get if I leave this state (my state is, I believe, the only one without a PG certification program). My plan was to go into environmental work, but once I started taking classes I really didn't like it. We never even looked at a rock! I liked paleontology though, it is infinitely interesting, there are so many ways to interpret both the fauna and the rocks they are in. Plus I like working on outcrops. My first semester of grad school I was approached by 3 professors (structural geology, petroleum geology, and geochemistry profs) requesting that I work with them for my thesis, but I turned them all down and asked my current adviser (a paleontologist) if I could work with him. Two of the three profs I turned down agreed to be on my thesis committee though (the other no longer works here).
The worst part of my drugging was the semester before I started grad school, and I'm sure the profs noticed that something wasn't quite right (also one of my drug buddies spilled the beans around department that I was doing dope. Luckily I had a good reputation there and good working relationships with the professors so they wrote it off as the other girl being immature and vindictive about a friendship that went south, because that's what I told them). But they still wrote grad school recommendations, they still asked me to work with them, and they still agreed to be on my thesis committee. That's why I'm not drinking or drugging today.
