Building our sober muscles this weekend - Weekenders 07-10 August 2020
Happy birthday Mags!
Willow, I know how empowered it has made me feel to get through the few social gatherings without drinking. Didn't have to worry about driving, no hangover, no embarrassment over something done or said from being drunk. Hope your Sunday afternoon AV leaves you alone also.
Fried fish is definitely one of my favorite foods. Just took a pack out of the freezer for tomorrow. 😋
Sao, happy birthday for next week. Can't say that I've heard of Roisin Murphy, must have never mainstreamed in US. Good stuff. Going to look for more on youtube or spotify.
Forwards, I know exactly what you mean - small promotion with increased workload. They must teach that at manager school.
I am the king of trying to prevent any form of uncertainty whatsoever. What specific types of uncertainty are you referring to?

Forwards, uncertainties will always cause worry. I guess its what we do with that worry that counts. Us alcoholics previously would of just drank at the problem. Now we are learning a better way to cope, and it is just that, learning. We just don't know what life will throw at us, ever. At least sober we can make a level headed attempt to find a solution. Some emotions like insecurity, loss and grief just have to be felt, beginning so raw and painful, but gradually healing over time, naturally without any substances, the way we were made to to do it.
Morning Weekenders
CityBoy, beautiful catahoula and little ‘un, too.
Saou, I misunderstood you, happy birthday for next week, more greetings will come on the day.
I don’t think I explained myself properly too.
I’m 62 today How did I get to be here. I was 30 not long back. Mentally, I’m in a lot better place than I’ve ever been.

So Sao's is one day this week between Monday to Friday ... I think
Forwards, sober muscles help. They grow with sobriety.
I thought it was similar to driving, now I look back.
When I first started driving and then passed my test I thought ‘that’s great! I can drive’.
Whereas I later learnt driving comes from experience bourne with time.
I’d made the initial step by passing my driving test, as my first step of stopping drinking.
From there I learnt on skills of driving on the road, as with sobriety recovery, we learn with our steps on the sober road.
Pitfalls and bumps in the road are avoidable. We learn how to manoeuvre around such obstacles or if we need to drive through them, we are skilled enough to take the rough ride and deal with it.
All this comes with days, months, years of sobriety. Every day sober adds up to our experience and learning, not just about staying sober, but how to live sober.
We’re all different and life has it’s challenges, there are no time limits, it’s a work in progress.
Keep going forward, reading and learning from people with experience under their belt. Get help and don’t be afraid or shy to speak out. I got to stay sober and a lot more with the help of SR and the wealth of experience here.
