STDragon - here's the link if you'd be interested https://aeru.co.za/ The sanctuary is in a small town called Knysna, which is right near Plettenburgh Bay. It was an overall amazing trip and experience.

Not sure if I had a drinking dream but I woke up full of relief that I’m sober.
I fleetingly let my mind wander to how my night would’ve been, when I was drinking.
I would drink till I passed out, then on waking look at the clock to see if I could get away with some more alcohol.
I’m sad for the person I was, but happy for the person I’ve become.
No more secret planning and hiding drinks.
I’m not saying it was easy for me to start with.
After years of abuse to my body, it had to get used to a whole new set of rules.
But once I had a plan (I was good at plans after all the planning and deception I’d done over my drinking years!), I travelled down the sober road.

If you’re like I was before I stopped and you know that drink is just taking to down the deep abyss, and thinking, maybe, maybe there is hope?

Yes, there is. Make that decision to stop then learn how to stay stopped.
You won’t regret it.

Ahh I came back to so many great animal pics. I love it.

Kaily - I hate to break it to you but I am just a cog in the machine at my zoo. I run the admission gates on the weekend, so the only animals I need to watch out for are the kids (and sometimes some aggressive parents, haha). There are certain occasions where we do get to go behind the scenes and I've gotten to hang with the giraffes, red pandas, penguins, and a few others. I love it there. Free admission for me and literally anyone I feel like letting in, lol. If working there full time didn't pay garbage, I'd probably quit my office job. I love the people and I love being outside. We've been training all the new kids, mostly high schoolers, for the season, and at the end of the summer I always feel like I'm letting go of my children, haha.

Anyway, I'm glad everyone seems to be doing well. WeThinkNot, I hear ya. Good luck on ending things. Sometimes friendships are harder to end than romantic relationships but it must be done. I've pared down my friend group as well both as a result of sobriety and just getting older. As a young adult, I've found that less is more when it comes to friends.

WhoDey, I hope you complete your outfit with a huge hat! A derby party sounds so fun. It's nice that the people hosting are mindful of people who don't drink. However, just make sure you stay vigilant. But have fun!!! Please let us know your top three favorite horse names.

Bim, I hope you get to relax a little and destress even though life seems pretty lit right now.

As for me, I went to the opera tonight with my mom and grandfather. He's 92 and music is his life, so it's nice to be able to experience these things with him. We saw Don Pasquale, and I really enjoyed it.

I did get my bloodwork back and everything seems okay except for a bit of high cholesterol. That runs in my fam though so I think I just need to work on some better eating habits and start exercising again. However, I really just don't feel right along with a couple other things that I don't have an answer for, so I'm not really sure where to go from here. I know we can't give medical advice here and I'm not really asking for it, I'm just sort of stumped.

Either way, glad to be sober tonight and wake up fresh for the zoo tomorrow. Grateful for all of you and this thread. I hope everyone had a great Friday (or saturday morning depending on time zones.) I wrote a whole novel, hah. Will check in sometime tomorrow too.

Sunny morning here! Though our forecast doesn’t look too clever.

I really need to get some wid bird for. I’ve got seeds but the goldfinch come for the sunflower hearts. I like them visiting so I oblige with what they like, as you do.

If you’re going away for the weekend have a good one.

We can all stay sober together.

Morning all,

wid bird for could that be wild bird food Mags?
I buy dried mealworms for the robins and black birds.

Nice pic Saoutchik, they really are riverside apartments. Not sure I would want to be that close, or maybe I would love it, who knows..

Enjoy your day at the Zoo dpac

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

Morning all. After a somewhat exorbitant expense this morning, I became the owner of an iPad SD Card Camera Reader, which is in fact just a small cable that allows transfer of photos from a camera card to an iPad.

I had better put it to use so here are a couple of pics that were taken with proper DSLR equipment on a recent trip into and around the Kruger Park.

Although these two are fortunately not in a room, it ties in on this week’s theme.

And this just gives an idea of a sunrise in the Kruger Park.

And a late afternoon.

Sorry about the confusion, I can’t believe my predictive text didn’t rectify it!

Oh Captain your photos are stunning, truly beautiful. Thank you for posting them.

I would love a good camera and to get into photography. Expense and carrying hefty equipment on a walk put me off. Maybe one day but I wouldn't have a clue what I needed to get started.
