I wonder what posessed them to build the Abbey here on this windswept clifftop?

I tried to take a pic of what was inside a turret-y thing but failed miserably.

PJ, gardening was a soul-healer for me. Congrats on passing your drawing class and it's lovely to hear you do have some relies who are there for you.

Say, that place looks so amazing. Funny how in Europe y'all have cool stuff that's just so old compared to much of what we have here across the pond.

I think the abbey was originally some kind of roman outpost for keeping an eye on the coastline and then became a monastery, the ruins are from when the place was rebuilt so not the original one. I think the ruins are around 800-1000 years old! The mother abbey, Fountains Abbey is not that far from where I live and that is an amazing place too! x

Whitby is a really cool town, cobbled pathways, old buildings, that kind of thing. I have a steep climb ahead. These are the steps to the Abbey.
Those stairs are a killer, but the view is totally worth it.

What a privilege to be able to visit sights like that Sao! The oldest historical buildings we have, apart from a few prehistoric cave dwellings and ruins, are only about 340 years old.

Thanks for sharing those pics. Nothing like that around here either. Now I’m all the more eager to get back over there.....so many layers to the history.

I hope the workday wrapped up nicely for all you that are on to Tuesday evening.

Good score on all those plants Phoenix.

Mayve one of the Abbeys Henry VIII looted and burnt in his 'invent a new denomination so I can get divorced and married again' drive?

My convenience store had a buy one get one free special on candy yesterday, I got an Almond Espresso Snickers and a Sour Skittles. Talk about sour, holy cow! I think it gave me diabetes though, they were also incredibly sweet. And 3 or 4 of my teeth fell out right after so that can't be good either haha. Honestly, the intensity of this flava made a real impression on me. How in the world are kids raised on this stuff ever gonna opt for vegetables instead, the old man wondered!

Yes, Skittles Sours are feisty. The packets have got a lot smaller in recent years I notice.

A new person has started work here while I was away. That person was born in the year 2,000. Boy does that make me feel old.

Long, but good day. Finally got to go for abike ride with someone from meetings- she can ride 150k in a day...I went for an hour..improvement.

Then 3 hours of mixing small amounts of different oils colours to make up weird colours..assessment stuff.

There is a naturalist trying to get a tarantula on his hand- the size of his face on tele...I jumped higher than he did when it moved.
