sorry to hear about Raven....poor kitty and yes ka-ching, unless the cause is obvious through an oral exam? open wide kitty and let me stick this in your mouth...(yeah right).

my new office computer and printer are being installed by IT today. I cannot be there to oversee my files transfer as i am holding down the fort on another campus....luckily my colleague (who is a PC applications specialist) is there to make sure they do not lose my stuff...

As I am "in charge" today (Dean of Education is at the beach), I have made an executive decision about my previous computer....I instructed IT to move it to the 2nd office in my suite (just vacated by a surgeon who left the university)...this way I can double-check all my files and clean up the hard drive on Monday....whew! good thing my little brain is sober, ya think?

Humblebee..best of luck with the kitty,I'm afraid that my attitude
regarding vets has come to a very monetary level in the past
few years and not one of exceptional care and love for the animal
needing care.
Perhaps the message is to forget the birthday and carry on with
life using the eyes of a youngster as I see myself..thanks for the
support. When I see myself, I see that young woman looking from
the eyes that are the same always..my heart isn't old and that is
what counts.
Happy day and cuddles..I know we go forward at times with a sense that no one cares like we do..however we do get a reward
here and there that there are people like ourselves that give it their
all and beyond..perhaps this vet will be the exception.

oh sorry, I forgot my whine du jour...

WHY does Mr. Fandy feel I need to read his "helpful" email about $5.00 kitchen gadgets? he prattles that I already have most of these....he doesn't know how do cook anything except pasta and open a can of soup.....I am just ignoring him, because interaction will lead to anger, depression and the urge to throw a large brick at his fat head....I just hope his hair is jumping off fast and his prostate becomes the size of a basketball.

HumbleBee, hugs for you and Raven and prayers for quick recoveries.
A good vet is worth his/her weight in gold. A bad vet should be shot. (Queeny's new rule of the day )

For the "he forgets my birthday" Whiners (said with love in my heart)...I remind Bubba every birthday, anniversary or special occasion.
Bubba is a good man with a bad memory for special dates.

I remind him ahead of time and again just before...and then if he forgets, he is in deep doo doo.
But he mostly remembers ( after the reminders) and Queeny gets to celebrate and be treated like royalty.
I have been married 105 years, and I know Bubba isn't about to get his memory back any time soon,
so I will continue to remind him...as long as MY memory holds out

Least, I don't know if you are on the other side of Lake Ontario or what, but that sounds like yesterday for me. You could see the sogginess hovering over the ground. Barely any of the storm system hit us last night. Just enough for a cool breeze this morning, I guess.

Hbee, you and Raven have my prayers for a speedy (and not too costly) recovery. I agree with Ann about a good vet being worth his/her weight in gold. Mine are wonderful, been vetting with them for at least twenty years and have absolute faith in them. I hope the new one you're seeing will be as good.

Least I totally agree with Ann and yourself about having a
vet that is worth his weight in gold..I do feel that is why I
wait it out about having a dog again..trust does take time.

I do want to say that my ***** weather forecast is looking fairly
amazing lately, in the past three days it has predicted that
the temperature would be ..yesterday 176 today 164 and
tomorrow in the high 100's and whatever..

The best chuckle I've had in days considering we have had
hail that cooled our city considerably..our flowers look like
they went through a world war..and I haven't yet put away
my fall jacket..

Toronto I lived in your city for 8 years..it took me forever to get
use to the weather as I was from the Timmins and Kirkland Lake
area. The pollution was so bad in the late 60's that they gave a
forecast daily..I didn't understand or pay attention then as as I
was so intent on being away from family that anything looked better at that point in life.

The abscess burst.

Raven walked into the kitchen where I was standing and began meowing. I bent down to pat him and could smell it (f-o-u-l).

He led me back to my bedroom where it happened...Mucho grosso.

Surprisingly, he let me gently clean the area on his face with a soft cloth and warm water.

How much it bursting on its own translates into $$$ remains to be seen.

Sorry to be sharing pus/blood discharge/abscess bursting details during lunchtime for some whiners.

I think this is progress....?

Ann, I also say this with 105% love...Bubba remembering dates due to your whispered reminders is great....but wasn't his gift on one of those special occasions 5 bags of dirt?? albeit it was the good dirt, but it wasn't that special rose bush you had been hinting about...LOL!

If you have any peroxide you can clean it with that to really clean it well. And when my animals have any cuts or contusions I always use aloe on it - from the plant, not the bottles of it with lidocaine for sunburn. I wish you well with the new vet.

First of all, thanks for the re-direction Least.

In relation to my finding a place to move in a hurry and freaking out over it, I just happened to come across a guy who has a room for rent (a mere $290 mth) and he just happens to be a recovering alcoholic. While telling me this he said his last roomie was popping beers at 10am. Jeeez, sound familiar? So he prefers someone who doesn't drink. How totally cool is this going to be?

So, this could be a real awesome thing for me! Plus he has a van and will more than likely help me move!!

I was so freaking out over how I'm going to get a place with internet but he said with a little help on his bills, he can swing it since I'm sitting on a balance of almost $400 with our cable company due to my old roomie jackin it up with pay movies!!!! PLUS! I never knew how much it was cuz she'd stash the bills on me!

This could be a good day after all and am going to meet him tonight. Sorry I don't have time to read of the other whiners cuz I'm still going to peruse the neighborhood of other prospective rentals.

Happy whining to all and I'll be back later!

blood and mucosa don't bother me at all( i was eating tuna and pasta)..if it burst from the outside I would try a gauze bandage to keep it clean until you get to the vet...if possible you might want to save some of the abcess contents for viewing under a vet's scope....(what would we do without baggies)?

probably dissolving sutures and a butterfly, a bit of shaving of the hair...unless I am completely clueless and it burst from inside his mouth?

Hiya Cat1961!

HBee - concerned for you and the Rave-ster. Both my dogs have "bumps" & we were hoping they were just those fatty depost things - maybe we better get to the vet, too.

Helluva hot one here again. Crops & flowers are fried.

it is very humid here, i don't even know the temps because I am sequestered in the hallowed office of the Dean....but just looking in the mirror at my hair confirms the weather...i am 2 " taller and pouffed out.

my new computer did not get set up after all, only the printer. IT confirms it has "diagnostic issues from improper software installation"...WTF? from the factory? good thing I am not paying for it, i would be hyper-livid. so we may just send it back to Dell-a-dingo and get a new one...however, the new supersonic printer workds fine.

Indeed it was he, who, one Mother's Day when I asked for something special for the garden that I could enjoy all summer, thinking of a Niagara Rose...he did indeed give me 5 bags of dirt. But it wasn't any old dirt, HB, it was 3-dirt dirt, special for gardens, ya know? That Bubba, he sure knows how to make a Queen feel special

I am glad you are going to a vet today, HumbleBee, that abscess sounds nasty and needs to be looked at since it's the second one. Poor Raven.

Hot day here but the humidity is gone since the storm last night. Lauren, I'm a southern Georgian Bay gal.

Hugs

Hi whiners.

I have two whines:

The lawn guy hasn't been here for two weeks:the grass is now taller than the house.

We have an advisory out from the CDC for dengue fever.

Last edited by cmc; 07-16-2010 at 01:25 PM. Reason: I should say that the grass is half as tall as the house

I had to google that to see what it was, and it is very nasty CMC, even can be fatal. It said it was spread by mosquito...do can you Deet everyone around you? Or use mosquito nets?

I really dislike mosquitoes of any kind and now I remember why...filthy disease spreaders!

I googled it too - I wonder why I never heard of it? We've always had plenty of skeeters where I've lived. Thanks for the brand, spanking new whine cmc!!

Welcome to WHiners Cat1961.

I really dislike mosquitoes of any kind and now I remember why...filthy disease spreaders!
West Nile comes to mind... and they are the carrier for heartworms, the nasty critters.

My whine? I've been staying home most of the day trying to sell my videotapes and not one person showed up! Doesn't anyone watch tapes anymore?? (I don't)

no, no one watches tapes except those in a nursing home...(you can donate if you wish to get rid of them and use the receipt for taxes).

Well The Fanster peed on the tile floor of the florida room...yesterday i sequestered him there for the day and he was sooo GOOD!....today he peed in 2 spots...(to make up for yesterday no doubt).

Monday we will go back to the crate and try the florida room again on Tuesday.

one of my former students came to visit me today. she has finished residency and a critical care fellowship and has just joined the faculty as a trauma surgeon...wow time flies, now she has 3 kids, a cat and a soon to be xhusband...(he's a jerk too)...she told me "he promised to love me forever"....we commiserated and I advised her to get a dog to keep the cat company.

she is a lovely woman, an excellent surgeon...trained at Yale, but she's still my 3rd year student who comes back to see me and offers to help cover lectures.

for some reason this makes me feel sad and mad.
