MantaLady, I hope your appointment goes/went well today.

Spam, vile stuff imo. Ate it in uni, cos it was cheap. Never again. I didn't know it was still made!

I think we had spam fritters at school or somewhere. It was ok as a fritter. I liked school dinners too.

I never had spam as a kid. Tried it once as an adult, out of curiosity. Didn't hate it, but I won't be seeking it out.
I do, however, seek out the Monty Python sketch on a regular basis.

I hope your appointment goes well today, MantaLady.

In Hawaii, spam (the food, not the junk emails) is really popular, maybe leftover from the war? They serve spam sushi, spam and eggs, etc. Kind of interesting. I don't think I could eat a whole bunch of it, I haven't had it in ages, but I do like salty foods.
Have a great day all!

Spam, spam, spam, spam.. I must try to find some for old time's sake.

In other news I have suddenly been asked to leave my current accommodation. I'm wondering whether I trust myself enough with three years sobriety behind me to to go for a mortgage so I can buy a place. Renting seems such a waste of money. What do you guys think?

Best wishes, Forwards.

Forwards, I think definitely yes to the house, you have come so far and done so well but I feel you have an error of judgement seeking out Spam!

Way to go on three years! I agree with Kaily. If you can manage a mortgage, you are farther ahead.

Different country and financial situation Forwards, but I prefer renting. I don't have to fix any of the problems, that arise.

Forwards, there is probably a lot of information available online that you could use to help decide about buying vs renting. One criteria, or criterion, I've heard is dependent upon how long you plan to stay at the location, if not very long you may be better off to rent. Here, interest rates are low, but I think home prices have shot through the ceiling, and forget about new construction if you're concerned about stress. I would look around, but might be inclined to rent until I found a decent deal on something I liked. Hope this helps.

Alysheba, I like to watch Andrew Zimmermann and I saw a show he did in Hawaii. Of all the heinous things I've seen him eat and describe around the world, he would not eat a spam sandwich from a popular outdoor kitchen in Hawaii. Took one bite and put it down. I think it's fine in a pinch.
