Don’t Quit this Weekend - Weekenders 21 - 24 February 2020
I hope things pick up for you soon Mariposa, like Mags says we’re here if you need to talk x
Finally a sunny day here albeit windy as heck but appreciating the fact it’s not raining! Got to take little Max to the vet this morning. I noticed last night that white inner eyelid is still 1/3 across his eye when he’s fully awake and looks pink so rang the vet first thing as he might have an eye infection. He’s not rubbing them, there is no gunk and is playing happily but it looks sore to me. Least I have the week off if I need to give him eye drops or something.
Jr, real life support = 0 I’m afraid. I spent so many years either as a drunken recluse or upset people that I just don’t have anyone I could call a friend. I have a few people but they are ex colleagues and not people I’d really want to discuss private stuff or feelings with. In the past I used to “over share” with the wrong people and opening up never worked out to well for me. Been to a few AA meetings but I really don’t like it.
Anyhow, time to get the vet basket out without Max running for the hills and see what the Dr says xx

Hello Weekenders hope everyone can enjoy their sobriety this weekend. A beautiful sunrise always helps Mesaman
While doing my crochet "Sophie's Universe" blanket, I'm thinking of my next project - a boho macramé wall hanging similar to this …
I love it and I love boho style.
Then I saw this...
This is just heavenly but impractical for a bag, so maybe a hanging plantpot holder. There's no pattern I can see, not a free one anyway, but could probably adapt from other patterns. Love it sooooo much.
Then there's the" mandala madness" blanket
I'll have to wait and see how much yarn I have left after I've finished sophie's universe
So much to look forward to
Might not get around to doing it all but I love a browse around Pinterest.

I'm on board this weekend again. I spoke in another thread about getting my cats neutered on Monday. I had to keep them in for about 3 nights after- neither me or them got much sleep over the few nights! They are used to going out at night and I used to check on them every few hours. One of them ran down to my room at 5:00am and peed on my bed! Their scars are healing well and they are spending the days in with me and out at night again, thankfully I get to sleep too!!

Good day Saturday, Weekenders.
I get to catch up here quickly-ish and then workywork for the morning into mid afternoon; you could call it overtime but there is no time and a half pay. The joys of self-employment: flexible schedule, no boss, no employment benefits, no complaint department so zip it jr.
I am wondering, in the case of folks who feel they have burned their bridges or perhaps recently moved or otherwise seem to find themselves without a support system of friends or family to call upon for sobriety support in real life:
One way to make new contacts with people with whom you will share a well of good-feeling from the get-go is to volunteer for some cause or project of interest to you. There are about a million causes, some grand scale (save the planet in one way or another; elect a political candidate), some one-to-one (help a kid learn to read), and everything in between. It gives one a sense of accomplishment motivated by something greater than making a buck; and in the practical sense I am talking about, it inevitably leads to making new connections with people in one's community. I have found that volunteering for one project puts one in communication with many folks that can lead to other soul-supporting activities (but beware, you must also learn to (gently) say no to what may turn into too many requests for volunteer support).
Sort of related: How about signing up for an adult education class at a local high school or the like? Where I live each town has many offerings, so it can be a way to pursue an interest, or explore a new interest, and in the process meet a few people who may share that interest. At least, by definition, you will meet some folks who like to spend some their free time doing something other than warming a bar stool.
Just a few thoughts before my 8 a.m. out-of-bed deadline (5 minutes to spare minus whatever time it takes me to post another pic from NYC last weekend):
Pic = "The Vessel," a new attraction, or curiosity, at a new megadevelopment on the west side of Manhattan called Hudson Yards. For those of you planning a trip to NYC some day, you can cross this spot off your list of "must sees" without bothering to go.
Of course this is just imho, and I haven't gotten any closer than I was in order to take this picture, but The Vessel is a place you can go and walk all those ramps that comprise the thing, I guess in order to see the varying views of the city afforded from the different ramps. Problem is, it is surrounded, mostly, by the new glass towers of the new Hudson Yards, so that is about all you see (or so it seems to me, not having ventured over to the actual structure). You get a view of the Hudson River and New Jersey on the opposite shore, but the view is only a limited one, between two towers.
If anyone here has actually climbed the thing I'd be curious to hear their impressions (or see a pic or two?), but it does not seem like a thing to bother going out of one's way to visit. A walk in Central Park would be much more richly rewarding.

Jr, the pics of the city are cool. $1 oysters sounds good too. My buddies and I used to get them by the bushel bag, or half bushel box. They are too expensive now ($75-$90 per bag) and we don't have as many of those get togethers. Talk about beer drinking. Most of the oysters you get here now are farmed and just don't have the flavor of the wild ones. People harvest them for personal consumption but I've never done it, and you have to keep up with the closures.
Sup weekenders? Been a while. 6 years and some change sober. Decided to quit drinking and never looked back. Just returned from an annual week long camp out in Sequoia Nat'l Forest. When they pass the bottle around the camp fire they just skip me now. Not drinking is nothing more than no thanks if offered. Clarity of mind is under rated. Spend most of my spare time centered around fly fishing. Wait a minute, all my time is spare time... Decided a few years ago to officially quit the rat race.
Heading to Italy in a couple weeks. A few days in Sorrento and a few days in Rome. All the usual stuff and a hike.
Thinking about getting ready to plant radishes and salads.
Hope all are well. I see Dee is back in the mix. Hi Dee, and everyone else.
To those new, don't give up. Someday you'll look back and it will be a distant memory. But never forget why you came here in the first place.

LBrain! So good to see you! Enjoy your travels.
Harriet - macrame! Takes me back to the 70s and 80s. I made some cool plant hangers. But wow - that handbag - whatI would have given for one of those!
(((mariposa)))) - so sorry to hear that things are rough for you.
Sao - cool car pic!
For those without real life support systems, your friends here may be ‘virtual’ but we have very REAL care and concern for you. You have real people who think about you during their days and want good things for you.
My friend is basically the same - severe heart and lung issues (bacterial pneumonia MRSA - probably hospital acquired); A.R.D.S., congestive heart failure. If she does pull through, the quality of her life will be greatly compromised. I am praying for peace and comfort.

Hello Weekenders, hope everyone is keeping well
The weather here today is quite literally "four seasons in one day". It's been calm and sunny followed by very strong winds with driving rain then calm and sunny again. At the moment the sun is out. I've done all I need to do today outside of the house (shopping etc) and now I'm back home with an afternoon of sport on TV to look forward to. And I feel relaxed and quite content. I've always loved Saturday.

Hi LBrain good to see you....I remember your wisdom in my early days.
Harriet, I love the boho macrame wall hanging, fabulous ...I used to make plant hangers when I was younger too! ❤️ Looks like your mandala madness blanket is completed. You’ve certainly a talent.
jr, thanks for the pics and update.
MantaLady, I hope Max is ok at the vets and his eye problem soon cleared up.
Talking about support, I find SR is my best support. My husband doesn’t understand or ‘get’ me like folk here do.

Sending positive vibes your way Mariposa, hang in there.
Same to you too MantaLady, CanadianKoala. Socialising without drinking seems difficult and awkward to people like us but it only requires a small mindset adjustment.
Great to see you on Weekenders again LBrain, it isn't the same without you. Rome is everything you imagined. I have not been to Sorrento but the Bay of Naples looks amazing.
Those photos are impressive Harriet, good going if you produce any one of those
It is an Aston Martin DB5 Vinny, the one seen in the old James Bond film Goldfinger although the one at the show presumably lacks machine guns and an elector seat. Here is a photo (not my photo this time)

Hey Harriet ~
Those are some interesting Project Pix you posted. Takes me right back to my Hippie Daze!
Because some things never change, the Recovering Hippie MesaMate is collecting bits for either Wind Chime-based Projects, or simply lil 'Whimsies' that are solely aesthetic. So, I did my bit and collected the core of some long-dead Cactus 'Limbs' while hiking the Desert recently with MesaDog. They look somewhat like long Loofah Sponge bits ~1' long, but more the diameter of a US Dollar Coin. She also bought some ancient-looking Bells [that aren't] at this Desert Shop called 'The Hippie Chicken'. The Bells will complement hanging Sea Shells we've collected. Some White Sage clusters are in there somewhere, too. We'll see where this all goes, since I'm likely Project Manager to bend Wire, and string all this - um - 'stuff' together at a few critical points.
Below is a Pic of MesaDog yesterday enjoying the Sun outside like Gramps wheeled out the Nursing Home. He's coping just fine on 3 Legs, and I'll do a test run later today on his new Dog Ramp for Truck access. He was watching me de-Mud my Truck over 2 Hours. THEN, de-Mud the Front Patio. THEN, the Garage [sans Power Washer]. 'Tis Mud City here, though drying. Fortunately, it's Night & Day different on the South, dry side of the House in full Sun. I sho slept well last NIght; despite all the Garage Dirt/Dust swept out doing a real number on my Sinuses.
Ditto to The Power Of *Whatever* on what Mags said about SR support. Everything this Introvert needed. Nuffin' I didn't.
