Hi WaterOx, Mark and Hopeful

WaterOx I’m not sure what FOMO means?
Is it like an attack from the AV? (Addictive voice or alcohol voice)

If so, I distract myself from it, go for a walk or do anything active. Or anything else at all really, clean the house, sweep the floor, phone a friend. Have a cup of tea or any other non-alcoholic drink I like (I try all sorts of different ones). Or eat. Preferably eat something healthy, but if that doesn’t work, I eat progressively more “naughty “ food. The trump card for me when the struggle is looking too hard to win, is icecream! Yep icecream stops the AV in its tracks

Feelings of missing out, willow
I'd never heard of it until a few days ago.

I think FOMO is Fear of Missing Out

' feelings' works too but there's definitely fear involved.

I'm doing my weekend hello to everyone on the thread. I'm looking forward to a few days of relaxation after a couple very hectic weeks. I will be checking in later as my plans develop or anything amazing to report comes my way... My shoes are off, the cats are running around the apartment, and dinner will be warming up soon.

You can add a T
FOMOT

Change it to Fear of missing out Tomorrow

And think of the things that won't get done tomorrow, how crappy you'd feel, and that you will miss when feelings of FOMO appear

Also think hard about it.
We know what that scene is. What it ends up being. How its not as glammed up as we anticipate. We know and we said goodbye to it for a reason.
So when the brain starts telling you otherwise, start stating facts of why it isn;t as fun as your brain is trying to remember.

In time you will find a really great activity or hobby that is fun and healthy and that you get so much more out of

Friday night and the gym was packed. Many others are not getting smashed but spending their weekend in the gym getting healthy. I spent $70 at the grocery for healthy nourishment at the grocery, would have spent that getting drunk in a few hours but now I have great food all weekend. Paid the cable, internet and power bill so those are good for a month. Steak, potatoes and lots of roasted veggies for dinner. Early night to hit the gym again early in the morning. Sunday I’m going to visit my family 3 hours away at the beach and see my sister for the first time in about four years. I hope this path leads me to a better place. Happy Friday SR stay strong 💪

Stayed in on a cold, rainy winters night. The rain will change to snow before morning. I went to the market 2 days ago so I would have to go this weekend. Winter storm, so they say. Sunday, big football game.
KC Chiefs against NE Patriots. I will be watching from the comforts of home, Sober and feeling good. Fingers crossed for my Chiefs, been a long time comin' . Stay strong friends.

Hi to all the new weekenders, you'll be so glad you didn't drink when Saturday morning comes around.

Usually I got out with friends and play indoor crazy golf or ten pin bowling on a Friday but that won't be happening fore a few more weeks as, ironically some of my friends are staying in so that they can complete "dry January." I read somewhere that about 5 million people in the UK are attempting it this year which seems a lot.
That's about twice the population of Manitoba and Saskatchewan combined!

I was a "closet" drinker. Never went out, kept my stash in the (attached) garage. So I never really experienced FOMO in that I imagine your refering to social situations?

What I did was set my mind on the right path every morning by checking into SR, e v e r y m o r n i n g . It was my daily pledge to not drink and to keep on keeping on. 117 weekends later, and still checking in every morning. (As nearly every evening too).

My JOMO? If I had not gone down this path, I would not have the wonderful relationship I now have with my daughter. I would not have been much help when she needed it most. Nor would I have discovered the joy of playing music. There so many things I could list. I'm available when ever needed. I feel good about myself, I have confidence, I remember things (no black outs). I could go on and on but it's past my bed time.

G'night!
