It's a matter of historical record that all great artists were/are heavy drinkers/users. You want to be a great artist, don't you? You need your life's blood, and if you die prematurely, you will be remembered even more. Don't you want a lasting legacy?

Only pathetic, unimaginative wimps with bow ties follow straight arrows. Even Karen Carpenter was anorexic. It gave her that "something special." Otherwise she'd just be another pretty voice and face, and those are a dime a dozen. The least you could do is be diagnosed with a long, drawn out fatal genetic disease.

Come on! You're not even trying!

Today my addiction is telling me.....

"So you missed a meeting last night? Nothing terrible happened. In fact, you had a lovely evening at home with your family! Actually, you slept well too. Maybe it's going out to meetings that is causing your insomnia? Maybe the answer is to quit AA altogether?? I mean, everything seems better when you don't go? It's AA that is the problem not the answer!"

WTF????

Actually, after three years my addiction doesn't have much to say anymore. I rarely hear it's tiny little voice and when I do it's easy to ignore. Thankful I've gotten to this point.

My AV is already whispering things about friends that are coming sailing with us in a few weeks......things like " you know you will be the only one on board not drinking ( except for possibly my non-alcoholic DH )..,What are you going to do....be RUDE just drinking diet coke?".... Um...why yes, AV, I think I will be rude.... Actually, this won't really be the biggest test I've faced in the last 2 years.... Not by a long shot.

Oh yes, I know that one. The 'if you give in, I'll shut up and let you get on with your life,' routine. The thing is, it doesn't work like that. What it really means is, 'if you give in now, I'll shut up until you stop giving me what I want. Then I'll start again.'
It used to get me time and time again that way.

There's nothing rude about drinking diet Coke.

Near the end of a long workday tonight:
AV: "Ah, finally you can go home and relax and have a drink!!"

Me: "Finally I know how to relax WITHOUT a drink".

It wasn't a complete thought but under great work stress, and agitated and hating that feeling, a couple nights this week the AV whispered: "go home and drink"

I didnt respond to it but noticed it and I just took that as an indication that my stress was extreme and I made an appt with my Dr for a check up.

"Life was so much easier when you could just drink instead of facing all these problems, alone."

Huh? How many ways wrong is that?

Today my AV said, "Please take your boot off of my neck."

I ignored him.

AV: "Look at you, you haven't changed a thing! You are still anxious, depressed, avoidant and always alone... what was the point of quitting alcohol, exactly??!!"

Me: "None of your business."

This is an awesome thread. It gets down to the reality of the voice within us that speaks to us about the drink or drug. Those who don't hear the voice may never understand it. It's so nice to have a community of people who have the same tone.

"The Labatt Ice beers are in the fridge, it is your day off, all of your commitments are met, lets go to the bar for a ""few"" drinks and get some food, lets take a ride to ..... house and have some beers with him in his back yard, lets take the dog for a walk in the woods and drink beer while he is getting exercise, the sun is shining, your doctor's appointment is not until next week and a ""few"" beers won't hurt that outcome, , you can call ........ and she will come over..... a ""few"" beers won't hurt anyone...............just to name a few.... that voice sure has some valid points....ha!"

My AV told me

that today was a busy day and buying a pack of cigs would be a good thing to relieve stress. I told my AV to stick it where the sun don't shine and grabbed another cup of coffee.

89 hours without a smoke
77 days without a drink

Each addiction taking an hour at a time.

That it's been long enough now (just over a month lol) and it would be ok to drink socially, especially because its my birthday on Monday because alcohol is not my doc.

bignd - awesome on the quitting smoking!

My AV told me today, that because I haven't lost any weight yet since I stopped drinking, that means I really couldn't have been drinking that much, and so it would be ok for me to go back to drinking again... what?!? I just laughed - at least my AV is hilarious!
