You know you've got an enlarged prostate. It'll help you urinate better.

Your mouth is dry, it will get the salivary glands squirting much better than water.

Sure, it's just warm dregs in the bottom of the can left over from last night, but pouring it out would be a waste. You're on a tight budget, you know.

I guess the addictive voice is like the trickster coyote in native American mythology. There's one story about someone who said he wanted to document the coyote. The coyote said, "sure, go ahead." The guy started his tape recorder and they had some back and forth. When coyote left, he opened the recorder, anxious to check his documentation, and the coyote's feces fell out.

Oh, that whacky coyote. Always has some tricks up his sleeve - and he doesn't even wear clothes.

As one mentally challenged person said, misquoting the axiom, "fool me once, shame on you. But you're not gonna fool me again."

Mine tried to convince me that since I'm going into a recovery center this week, I should go out with a bang! And just drink as much as I want since I'll be stopping once I get there. But, alas, I have no money for booze.

It is my wife's birthday and she wanted peach snap cocktails. Clearly unfair to me, so therefore I should make things fair by drinking peach snap cocktails with her. And really Nomis, what's the harm it's Saturday night?

Sneaky coyote

I love this question!!!

Today, like many other days, that ugly alcoholic-self voice in my head tried to convince me (unsuccessfully) that drinking is: normal, everyone does it, I'm too young to have a real problem, I can handle it now, how can I have any fun whatsoever without booze especially in a social situation where everyone else is drinking. It's a bunch of BS!

AV: "The reason why you feel so weak and your legs are like jelly is because your body's wondering what's going on. It's wondering why you haven't fed it alcohol in over a week".

Me: "Well, my body's just going to have to suck it up. It will benefit in the long-term".

Av: These people you are reading about and the people in AA are people with real drinking problems. Your situation is nothing compared to all these people. You need to stop over reacting and lighten up.

"This anxiety is no fun. How about we have a drink with your dad when we meet up with him tomorrow, just to take the edge off? It doesn't count if you drink with someone else!"

Thanks, but no thanks. After I ride this out for a few more days, my nervous system will be back to normal. Also, AV, there is no "we". Bye.

Mine convinced me of that on Saturday - just one last football game. I spent saturday night through today sick as a dog. Ignore the voice!

This past weekend mine said... "Of course you should celebrate your birthday with a little champagne toast. Just a little can't hurt.".... I said " neither can a diet coke"

Tonight it popped in my head how with all my stress relaxing with a drink at home would be so nice.

You know what? Drinking a different beverage instead of alcohol is a teeny sacrifice especially compared to the HUGE benefits sobriety brings. In the risk/ benefit analysis, AV, you SOOOO LOSE!

"A drink would make the pain & tension go away."

"This is the last night when you'll be alone most of the night -- no one will know."

"Which sounds better, cleaning the fridge, or having a few drinks?"

Give me strength tonight!

Mine asked me if I was going to be able have a cold refreshing one after I cut grass this summer .....

Why was I thinking about cutting grass in January?
