Here goes ..
Yeah I've been busy too. Been running a lot lately and amazingly have managed to quit smoking. Took many attempts but I think I nailed it. Probably physically better than I have been in a long time but ill be honest I still drink and sometimes damagingly so. But day to day I am fine and full of rules that I try to stick to. It is tiring in some ways but it works.
Either way, good to hear from you dee. Best wishes to you.

Octooo - So happy to see you, my friend. No lectures - just want you to be ok. I now have 5 yrs. 3 mos. I never went back.
Congratulations on quitting smoking - a huge accomplishment.

Hello to you Octoman and friends :-)
I marvel at this type of SR thread, honestly. OM, you've journalled your initial attempts to get and stay sober, and then you've felt able to come back after long SR absences to say hi to Dee and your friends. I think it's bloody marvellous that you're constantly welcomed back without any judgement or exhortations.
I'm one of the newer SR members, and one of many who starts drinking again, at various stages. And am still in that position now, indeed have posted interminably long :-) rambles about same elsewhere on SR.
Still: there is something remarkable going on, especially in light of the internet's ridiculously short attention span, that you can and do drop in to this community over FIVE YEARS.
Please do stick around a bit currently. I for one would benefit from hearing your story and experiences.

And, my usual addendum (i.e. a thought I meant to put in before):
Hevyn, you are a legend. 5 years plus, and you 'never went back'!
I'm often struck by how people we know - either in real life and / or via virtual discussions - each travel such different paths, in sobriety and life itself.
'It' - the sort of Holy Grail of success / closure (though I am averse to the way that word is used these days, too blithely) - appears unfathomable to those of us who battle away, going hither and thither, backwards and forwards, in and out. Whichever metaphor applies.
And yet....this community of rabble, sages, just-ordinary-people-on-the-street, the sick and the well, the citizens of this or that country on this globe...well, we just continue to reach out.

Hi there!
Hope you are doing well. Can't believe it is nearly Christmas again. Each year seems to go faster than the last one.
Things are going okay. Obviously I haven't managed to make sobriety stick yet but on the other hand life hasn't unravelled fully. I'm really enjoying being a dad to my son who is nine now and he more than anything helps me keep it together. I love him dearly and he is such a fabulous boy. We have a super relationship and in that regard I think I am blessed.if I do kick drinking for good it will be for him.
Hopefully life is treating you all kindly and Christmas will be a peaceful one for you. Speak soon.
