Class of May 2020 Part 3
Hi everyone. I know I'm posting a lot today but I am trying to keep my mind occupied and filled with positive. I just made it to 48 hours. Day was ok. Blood pressure was up again but controlled with extra medication (but not quite as much extra as yesterday). Hoping by tomorrow I won't need any extra. Hoping for a good nights rest and a new day tomorrow.
Hope

I "tried" each one when I wasn't really interested in getting sober.
When I became really serious about trying, I started myself again on gabapentin and immediately contacted my doctor to discuss.
I'm bringing this up because my doctor overseeing me through RAAMs (Rapid Access Addictions Medicine Clinic) mentioned antabuse is last on his list to use because the other three get at cravings and anxieties around stopping drinking while antabuse just punishes you when you do step out of line and drink. The doctors at RAAMs are specialists in treating addictions and they are of course a nice accent to a family doctor.
Anyways, it might be worth asking about! If you have the names of the drugs to mention and you have some background information gathered - it might result in a more wholesome conversation with your doctor. Can't hurt to ask and push the envelope a bit. It is after all your body under their care and you have every right to ask and get answers!!!

Have you asked your doctor about drugs like naltrexone, gabapentin or acamprosate?

Would be nice to have something that helped with the cravings.
Anyways day 5 now. Was just out for a smoke. Already bright at 4:30am. Feels like summer already.
FF - while the drugs that reduce cravings are a great tool, they still require a firm commitment to staying on your part, and a recovery plan that works for you. You will not be completely free from AV while taking them (unfortunately).
I am also taking Gabapentin. It helps with cravings. Although, I ran out of my first prescription and didn't renew it a few months ago. Was drinking soon after. Back on it now because I realize it makes a difference.

I'm practicing AVRT and using some of the SMART tools too. I'm trying everything I can and really jumping into recovery
I have a plan to not drink again and feel I finally have the motivation and tools to do so. The pills would just be an extra help
Morning all
wow so many posts, I can't keep up-how wonderful to see us all posting. Hopeful-please dont worry-post away as much as you need to-that is what we are here for. Congrats to everyone on sober time
Lovely images of kangaroos Coz-thank you
Day 15. Promises to be a hot sunny day here today so will be sat out on the decking reading. Hoping to be back at work in June so might as well enjoy the last few days of lockdown. So pleased that when I go back to work I will have a few weeks of solid sobriety behind me. Not that I have a stressful job, it's more habit of drinking after work like a 'treat'.
i've also been seriously thinking about my health lately and how alcohol impacts so seriously on it. Weight gain, type 2 diabetes ( on verge of), heart disease, stroke risk. I had started to get pains in my feet when I woke each morning. told myself it was hard skin. It has now gone completely so would be fooling myself if I didn't realise it was alcohol induced some sort of neuropathy. Also there is the vanity side of things too. I was looking shocking. I read on another thread that you can tell people who drink heavily - they have that sort of bloated, flushed look which can't be covered with make up.
I am also a 3-4 litre water person a day. Always was though even when drinking. Probably the only healthy eating habit I've always had! Anyway hope everyone has a good day/night,

Morning everyone!
Wow this thread moves fast! I’m stepping into day 6, I can’t believe it! Almost a week!
I also drink lots of water, and I’ve recently rediscovered my love for fruit teas and peppermint tea!
Sending positive vibes!

My dad decided against the plan of holding onto my money
So I have cash for beer
Naturally my AV is excited but I'm just recognizing it as AV and dismissing it
It wants to drink. I want to stay sober.
My dad and I have a deal now. If I'm sober until August 1st, he'll pay the tuition I owe from before. If I'm sober til October, he'll pay next year's tuition. So a lot is riding on my sobriety. I can't afford to **** things up.
I do feel more confident in my abstinence than ever before. I have everything to gain and nothing to lose by staying sober.
