Good luck with your appointments, Jen!

I am sorry I did not mean to start a debate, I only know what is true for me.

taken from a friend whom passed this onto me.
"we only keep what we have by giving it away"
(N.A BLUE BOOK)

managing mental illness without meds

1) Get Enough Light and Sunshine.
Lack of exposure to sunlight is responsible for the secretion of the hormone melatonin, which could trigger a dispirited mood and a lethargic condition.

Melatonin is only produced in the dark. It lowers the body temperature and makes you feel sluggish. If you are always cooped up in your room (with the curtains closed), it would be difficult to restrain yourself from staying in bed.

This is the reason why many people are suffering from depression much more often in winter than in the other seasons. It's because the nights are longer.

If you can't afford to get some sunshine, you can always lighten up your room with brighter lights. Have lunch outside the office. Take frequent walks instead of driving your car over short distances.

2) Get Busy. Get Inspired.
You'll be more likely to overcome any feeling of depression if you are too busy to notice it. Live a life full of inspired activities.

Do the things you love. If you're a little short on cash, you could engage in simple stuffs like taking a leisurely stroll in the park, playing sports, reading books, or engaging in any activity that you have passion for and would love to pursue.

Set a goal - a meaningful purpose in life. No matter how difficult or discouraging life can be, remain firm and have an unshakable belief that you are capable of doing anything you desire. With this kind of positive attitude, you will attain a cheerful disposition to beat the blues.

3) Take a Break.
I mean it. Listen to soothing music. Soak in a nice warm bath. Ask one of your close friends to massage you. Take a break from your stressful workload and spend the day just goofing around. In other words, have fun.

4) Eat Right and Stay Fit.
Avoid foods with lots of sugar, caffeine, or alcohol. Sugar and caffeine may give you a brief moment of energy; but they would later bring about anxiety , tension, and internal problems. Alcohol is a depressant. Many people would drink alcohol to "forget their problems." They're just aggravating their conditions in the process.

Exercising regularly is a vital depression buster because it allows your body to produce more endorphins than usual. Endorphins are sometimes called "the happy chemicals" because of their stress-reducing and happiness-inducing properties.

5) Get a Social Life.
No man is an island. Your circle of friends are there to give you moral support. Spending time and engaging in worthwhile activities with them could give you a very satisfying feeling. Nothing feels better than having group support.

Never underestimate the power of touch. Doesn't it feel so good when someone pats you on the back and gives you words of encouragement during your most challenging times? Hug or embrace someone today. You'll never know when you have saved another life.

Get intimate. Establish close ties with your family and friends. The love and care expressed by others could tremendously boost your immune system and fend off illnesses. Best of all, you'll live a more secured and happy life.

Good info BF. Thanks.

Still on my meds for now. I might post more later but the short of it is the therapy session went very well. The shrink has decided to up my Wellbutrin from 350mg to 450mg. She wants me to give the Remeron a fair shot to see if it'll work. I'll follow up with her in a month unless something screwy happens.

I'm still "testing" the Remeron. Boy, I love being a human guinea pig. :eyeroll:
I took it last night around 9:30.
Got into bed around 10:30.
Read for about 20 minutes.
Fell asleep quickly.
Alarm went off at 6:15.
I didn't wake up and get out of bed until 8ish.
Late to work again.
:double eyeroll:

More boring stuff.

I didn't get a chance to take my Remeron last night.
I got home from a meeting (yes, and AA meeting!!!) and then a quick shopping trip around 8:30. C had injured her back for about the 4th time this year. It's really bad. No offense to grandmothers out there but she looks like a 35 year old walking around like a grandma. She's in pain. Luckily she had muscle relaxers and pain meds from her last injury. So, yesterday, of all days I forgot to bring my cell phone to work with me. She had been trying to get a hold of me since 5:30! I felt horrible. She needed food so she could take the meds. Luckily I had gotten a cooked chicken while shopping and was able to feed her right away.

She took her pills and I put this blue emu stuff on her back, rubbed it a little and the next thing I knew it was 20 'till 10. Way past time to take the Remeron. So I took a klonopin and some benedryl (I'm having allergy issues anyway). I ended up on the computer, was just going to do a quick look at my bills, finances, etc. and I ended up screwing around with it until like 1am.

Needless to say, just like every other morning.
Alarm set for 6:15.
Snooze
Snooze
Snooze
Snooze
Out of bed around 8ish.
Late to work.

On a positive note, the meeting last night was good and I'm going to an AA Area Conference in my home town, with my parents this weekend. I'm a little leery of being in a meeting with BOTH my parents but I'll survive. There are worse things to go through. i just hope C starts feeling better. She really wants to go out of town this weekend to see her niece play volleyball.......she'll probably go even if she's still in pain. That's just how she works. She's also not in a big toot to get to the doctor about her back.

So yes, I'm a little grumpy today. Well, may be not grumpy but sleepy and from allergies, my eyes are killing me. I will survive.

Peace and hugs.
Out.

Ha! Thanks Stone.

I'm gonna print that out and wear it on my shirt at the conference. We'll see how that goes over.

LOL, You're right teach! That would be pretty funny.

The conference was good. I'll tell more later. I just wanted to post a quick weekend update (for me) on my sleep meds.

Friday, Sat, Sun night's were all late nights so I did no take the Remeron.
Fri night I took clonopin. slept well.
Sat night, clonopin. was awake all night, until about 5am.
Slept A LOT on Sunday.
Sun. night, I took clonopin and benedryl. I don't know what time I feel asleep. I slept on the couch all night and I slept well.

Monday morning. To work ON TIME today !!!

This evening: I plan to work out, or at least do some cardio. And lots of stretching. It always relaxes me.

That's all I know.

Another boring post ....

Took remeron at 8:15 last night.
Was asleep (on the couch) by 10:15.
Slept well all night.
Got up about 7ish.
Got to work on time
BUT
half way through my 30 minute drive to work I got so, so tired
when I pulled into the parking lot at work I had to lay back and
take a nap for about 20 minutes.

I really just wish I was at home in bed today. *blah*

P.S. But I'm not grumpy damn it.

I'm done with the damn Remeron. It seems to leave me with a hang over.

This week, I'm going to try no sleep meds.
Cross your fingers.

Hey, PD,

Just FYI,
Something my counselor told me once...
For best results, and no 'hangover' effect with sleep meds, take them about 10 hours prior to the time you want to get up.

Shalom!
