My island is floating up to the Prince William sound for the summer, breath taking views at every turn. Return south later on... a bit cold in the winter.

Good evening, misfits!

I've had a long day on my island. But I have peace of mind because I was able to identify positively another flower growing in the underbrush of the same neighborhood park: Spanish Bluebells, hyacinthoides hispanica.

Courage, you are able to identify so many plants and birds. How? I like and spot both regularly but have no idea how to work out what's what. I did have a bird book once and would spend ages trying to figure out if it was shaped like this silhouette or that... usually to no end.

I look at flower and bird images & descriptions online. I'm probably often wrong w/identifications, and I never remember the names of anything, but it's a harmless pastime. Unlike some

I had a hard time with that plant, until today I checked the leaves carefully & plucked one flower so I could examine the petals. Once I saw it had 6 petals it was easier to find w/an image search.

Another way to ID stuff is get a good field guide and really go through it page by page. Most have recommended methods for ID. Once you see all the pictures you can usually narrow a strange bird down to a section in the guide in a hurry.

Well, I did healthy today. Instead of a burger I got a salad. Thankfully, I have chocolate to counter the healthfullness.

Just got back from Kentucky Derby party. No mint julep, but lots of goodies I did not need. Just happens once a year, so what the heck.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_Brown

It is an open face turkey or ham sandwich with bacon and cheese that is put under a broiler, toasted and served hot. Gets its name from the toasty cheese that is lightly browned.

The best and most "authentic" is a cheese sauce made with Parmesan. It is variation of "Welsh Rabbit" cheese sauce.

These were turkey only and small since it was a finger food buffet. I have had them with both, definitely good no matter what!

Sounds a little like a Horseshoe without the fries, one of the many horrifying things born in my home town. Whatever history says about Welsh rarebit sauce, the modern dish is most often drowned in Cheese Whiz.
