Just a thought...
Croutie, I say this in abject humility: He knows I could run manufacturing better than anyone including himself. He can't afford to pay me to do that. It's a small company. He pays me what he can and doesn't ask for what he can't pay for. Good guy.

No wonder this Duck and local Pond Slider have kept up with each other. Trach was the first response to my first SR post nearly 3 years ago. I lost everything in 2004 after several layoffs, my profession disappearing before my eyes and a failed business. I left St Louis with a 17 year old car, some of my clothes and things I did not sell and my dog and went off to a temp job. That lasted until I landed here. Been at present job 11 years now. Definitely underemployed and getting to be seriously underpaid. That fueled depression and increased my recreational drinking into full fledged alcoholism.

I just turned 59 yesterday. Woo hoo. I admire you fellow pond dweller and keeper of the island for wanting to start over. I wish I had but it is likely too late. I have applied for better paying jobs with benefits, but I never get an interview. So I have a scary future.... hope the island is still open.

Good to see you Moo.

Drake, Happy Birthday!

We should celebrate. We could be dead now. Instead we get to experience this life a little while longer and all that it gives us.

If all works as it should, I'll be dayhiking a coastal island at the end of next month. There will be rookeries of big birds, and alligators, and just the breadth and scope of nature.

Don't think it's over, friend. Lot's of living left to do.

p.s. I'll need scullery help in the kitchen of the Crone Retreat if you can work in a kitchen.

I hope you had a happy birthday, Drake. You've weathered a lot of storms and should be proud.

Edit: what the turtle said. ^^^

I know my way around a kitchen pretty well. Southern is one of my specialties as is Cajun/Creole and soups and sauces. I make mayonnaise too. May need that job... but I would need a stool and lots of breaks.

"but I would need a stool and lots of breaks. "

HA! That's my arrangement at work now!

Hey, the crones aren't too demanding. I ran the kitchen in jail so I know the routine.

Hi All;
Thanks for bumping this trach--
Also wishing you a happy belated birthday Drake
I think we're all missing Gilligan-Cow, so maybe you're right about
which island we're on.

Been a busy week for me, including dental work which I dread.
Lucky me, two fillings replaced yesterday and a crown re-do and other
fillings Friday.
You know you're getting old when you have to have fillings "replaced"
My word . . .

Happy Birthday Drake!

Trach....my jail kitchen could've used you! It was gross...I didn't eat anything they served. Should market it as the ' jail diet' and make a million dollars!

I'll be thinking of you Friday, hawkeye!
Xo

Kids, until you replace all your teeth...nevermind.

Makes it easier to brush them , I'll tell ya.

Now, let's keep this thread alive, ok?

If I have to bring in hookers, I will. Female and male.

Let me know if you need the hookers, there are plenty in my hood. I usually chase them away, but if needed can direct to the Island.

I really hate for this thread to be the dirty little sister thread to the sparkley Cow thread but ... I guess we are what we are.

Y'all know that's a joke, right?

Fer what it's worth, the island has a distinctly southern, distinctly pond-sliding feel to it. Not bovine per se. More like a marshy place where a cow might cool her heels on a hot day or take a mud bath. It attracts ducks, too.

And city girls with small town roots.

Fer what it's worth I was referring to the relationship Savannah and Charleston have. Savannah is often referred to as Charleston's "dirty" little sister. Both cities elegant southern ladies, one just a little racier.
