Another sober smoke free weekend. Some friends came over dinner last and night and one of them smoked. I asked him to go outside and he didn't mind. I didn't want to join him.

Have you noticed that people smoking outside buildings don't look happy at all? Of course, they may sometimes look happy if they're chatting to their friends but that's not because of their cigarettes, it's because of their friends, isnt' it?

And given that the vast majority of my friends and colleagues don't smoke, I'm definitely not missing out.

I feel defeated. I haven't smoked but I'm considering giving up. What's the point if I'm still going to crave them ALL DAY?? Ugh!

The point Mamahawk is you are much better than the cancer sticks that are laughing all the way to the grave as another one of us gives up fighting the craving.

The craving will go away.

When my sister was dying of lung cancer, the last words she spoke were, "you think it can't happen to you".

If you give in to the craving, we will still be here and You will be welcome, but please don't give in.

I didn't give in grtgrandpa. I really wanted to but I didn't. So I made it to 10 days. Thank you for the encouragement. I really appreciate it.

Oh Mamahawk, I know just how you feel. As ggp said, the cravings DO go away. Today is 652 days smoke-free for me, and I can assure you if all of those days had been as hard as the early days, I wouldn't still be quit. It really does get so much better. Please remember to be proud of yourself for not giving in. You can do this. We all can, if we just take it a little at a time.

24 more for me.

I get like that. usually it's right around the 3 week mark I snap. I know it's a BS trick but I keep falling for it. Then is what happens is I want so badly to quit again I wish I could take it back and have those 3 weeks again. When I am smoking I crave them all the time too.

I am afraid I got cross with a stranger yesterday. I was just stepping out of the pharmacy where I'd gone to pick up some medicine and a woman was smoking in the doorway! I was hit by a cloud of smoke as soon as I came out.

I didn't use a really loud voice and I didn't swear but I did say sharly "Why are you smoking here? Can't you go inside and get some patches?" She was actually smoking next to a sign advertising a smoking cessation programme.

She was shocked of course. "None of your business" she replied. I said it was my business because the smoke was going up my nose and on my clothes. I asked her again WHY she was smoking. "Because I enjoy it". "If you think about it honestly, you will realise you are not enjoying it," I said. And gave her a little hard stare then a smile. She smiled back sheepishly and we left it there.

I feel a hyporcrit for harrassing a stranger but I am very edgy around smokers and smoke at the moment.

It's 47 days since my last fag. I am glad I stopped.

AF since 9/1 and SF since 7/7 - the two go hand and hand and being AF has made being SF much easier. Multiple past attempts to quit smoking were harmed by drinking and this is the first time I have dedicated myself to stopping both. I feel like I have thrown off my shackles and that I am free for the first time in my adult life. Quitting smoking easier then in prior years as it has become rather taboo - wish the same would be true for alcohol.

EP- Your story actually made me chuckle a little. I think we all get cross sometimes when we don't mean to be. Maybe next time the lady will think about smoking further from the door or even quit.

silentrun- welcome back. Congrats on 3 days!! I know you've been there before but I think every time we quit we deserve congrats. I can so relate to what you said. I quit and relapsed on the smoked a ton of times before finally staying quit. Eventually, I realized that I would just regret it if I smoked at all and wish that I was still quit. I started thinking that if I could just string together all the times I'd quit, I could have a lengthy amount of time and actually get past the hard part.

Another 24 for me.

No smoking for me today. Last night I was around a smoker and I wasn't even tempted. It was weird though because I smoked for so long, I realized how easy it could be to slide into the habit of it again. I'm glad I didn't.
