Glad to hear that Alfie is improving Kaily.

I'm slowly getting better. Today I walked to the newsagents without any problems and felt fine when I got back home. On Thursday I did some shopping and was fine too. But yesterday I seemed to take a step back and was struggling again. I walked to my mother's yesterday morning but felt uncomfortable and a bit breathless. I didn't risk walking back home so got a taxi. I think it's definitely a case of taking things slowly and seeing small improvements day by day.

One thing I am enjoying again though is having a Saturday afternoon treat as my taste buds are now in perfect working order. I'm currently eating a packet of Spicy Prawn Crackers and some chilli sauce dip. It's all wonderfully spicy and has got my nose running!

Have a good day everyone

That is a lovely video, Mesa

And of course now I want some spicy prawn crackers Glad things are becoming normal again Robbie.

Well me and Dr Vet google got it wrong, Alfie doesn't have Pancreatitis. His blood test showed an acute kidney problem . We are back to the vet Monday. He is definitely feeling better but that might just be the steroids, hopefully not. I don't know.

I hope everyone is OK. I'm not great myself.

I woke up yesterday with a very bad pain in my lower back. Even trying to put jeans and sneakers on was painful. It just made me think of my auntie. Three years ago she was complaining of back pain. Then she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer despite having never smoked a cigarette in her life. She didn't even last the year.

I was awake early this morning so i went into town and did something stupid. I bought Matthew Perry's book. It is a difficult read so I have put it aside for now.

My back is a bit better since I started stretching. It has to be the mattress. It needs to be turned over. I said to dad jokingly that i never have this problem at home. He replied thats because i turn the mattress over for you.

We used to have a rabbit at home. When she would wake up she'd give a yawn and a massive stretch. The cat does the same thing now with a big stretch. Animals are a lot smarter than we think or give them credit for.

I was complaining to my housemate last night about my back- I was in a lot of pain then. Unfortunately I said to her "please just kill me'. This is the housemate whose half sister took her own life earlier this year. As soon as the words were out of my mouth, i wanted to cut my tongue off. I wanted the ground to swallow me up. I apologised a lot and she seemed ok with that. Why can't I keep my big mouth shut?!!

My mum told me earlier that she doesn't want to do Christmas Dinner this year. Fair enough, we don't really like turkey anyway. Why? Because the first grandchild is due around the 26th of December. My child should have been the first but i did not get to have him or her. Just everything is piling up on me at the moment. I think its nap time. Take care everyone.

MesaMan, I've seen other videos of piano playing for animals. Paul Barton plays piano for elephants.

Kaily, I'm sorry Alfie has kidney problems. . I pray the vet can do something to treat it and make him feel better.

Took a walk down to the corner of the street and back. I slept late today and didn't know it rained earlier. Ck told me that winter is California's rainy season.

Was hard getting fully awake this morning. Just wanted to lie down and go back to sleep.

Well, another cup of coffee might wake me up.

Hi Mags and everyone. I am in for another sober weekend. Kaily I hope Alfie will be okay. Good luck at the vet Monday.
PJ I hope you feel better.
MLD I am sorry you are losing a much needed colleague. I hope you can find a replacement.
least I am glad you got out for a walk.
Tetra I hope you enjoyed your nap and feel better soon.
Robbie I am glad your taste buds are working again and hope you continue to improve. I understand the slow going. My diverticulitis has been a slow recovery too.

I am able to play tennis again which is great. Looking forward to my granddaughter coming over tonight. Been working on my mother's estate stuff today and yesterday. Trying to do as much s I can to save on attorney's fees.

I hope everyone has a good Saturday night. Lots of sports to watch here. Football, baseball and tennis.

Take care all.

Had not heard of this, checked it out. Quite surprised it's done with effigies of living people...

Have lovely memories of childhood Guy Fawkes nights with pretty sparkling fireworks, a few little crackers, the pinnacle of excitement in a couple of skyrockets, and potatoes baked in the bonfire eaten all black as they were, with loads of butter and salt.

Good Morning Weekenders

Tetra, might be an idea not to read Matthew Perry’s book whilst you’re feeling down perhaps. Books can sometimes ‘rub off’ on us. Take care. Sending gentle hugs. x

CBS, pleased you can play tennis again.

Kaily, Hope the vet can sort out medication for Alfie with the kidney problem love.

I’ve just put a long burning log on the fire to warm up the room. They’re quite effective when you’ve run out of coal and are awake at 2.30 am!

Love to all Weekenders xxxx

Mags, so your heat is a stove that burns both coal and wood? Not at the same time, I mean, separately.. That would be so convenient. . I remember well the two coal burning stoves at the farmhouse, and no heat at all upstairs, tho a few open spaces in the floor so the heat from downstairs could rise and help heat the upstairs. Didn't do much tho.

I lived in a little quonset hut for several years and it had a gravity furnace, where there was no fan but vents cut in the floor to let the heat come up thru the furnace ducts. It didn't work very well but it wasn't the worst heating I've ever lived with...

When I have my follow up appt with my new doctor on the 21st I want to ask him for a referral to an eye doctor cause it's been a few (??) years since my last pair of glasses and they''re not helping much anymore. My vision is blurry a lot of the time and it's not cataracts cause I had the surgery and now have an artificial lens in both eyes, My vision was great for a while but I need an exam and new glasses, I will ask ck to check my eligibility for eye exams under my health insurance coverage. She would know better than most cause she's the business office manager at that facility. .

Want to ask for your prayers and good thoughts for my sister (nycsis) as she just rec'd a diagnosis of lung cancer cause an x ray found a large mass in her left lung. . I feel awful, The only thing I can do is to be a cheerleader for her without being sappy sweet. I'm asking for your prayers and thoughts as she meets with medical experts to discuss her treatment options and possible prognoses. She's been a nurse for a long time in nyc and knows a lot of specialists so that is in her favor. Glad it was caught at all by a routine exam order for an x ray.

To my sister, I am praying for the excellent medical professionals to do their magic and heal you. I am also praying for peace of mind for you in this trying time.

Prayers for your sister, least.

More prayers for Alfie.

Prayers for Robbie.

Prayers for your back, Tetra. If I am interpreting your post correctly, you lost a child. I am so sorry.

Goodnight and sleep well, all.

Least sending up prayers for your sister.

It’s an open coal fire not a stove as such. We burn smokeless coal usually on it. We have central heating system but with gas being so expensive just lately we’ve turned the heating down.

Goodnight Leigh, sweet dreams.

Not sure I know what an open coal burner looks like. Will have to google it.

Ok, looked it up now have some idea what they look like. Some of them were quite expensive.

I'm going to Take Billie out for her bedtime potty and then soon after, go to bed to snuggle with my snuggle buddy.

Tetra I am sorry you are feeling so overwhelmed.

Caramel, I posted about the effigies on another forum as I thought it was quite amusing. I was soon put in my place about it . It did make me question if it was right or not.

I don’t like the idea of burning effigies of living people tbh.
Too menacing imo and could incite some moron to violence.
Liz Truss is still a human being and someone’s daughter, wife, mother, etc.

Least I hope your sister gets all the help and support to recover quickly.

Morning Mags I'm about to do my morning wordle

Alfie is brighter this morning

Kaily, That’s good news about Alfie. ❤️

Least, the coal fire with fireplace surround was in the house when I moved in. I never changed it as I can breathe better with coal than gas fire.

Goodnight calmself. congratulations on 357

least, all the very best to your sister and those caring for her, and to you. I'm sure you'll be given the right words when the need arises.

Kaily - so glad wee Alfie appears to have turned the corner. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Mags, it's years since I've seen a coal fire. I remember the intense heat and rosy glow of the burning coals in the house I grew up in. There's a type of local coal here that has a very pleasing aroma (to me) as it burns although I think it's not so good on producing heat. Some coal is soft and inclined to be dusty, or produce a lot of ash; other coal is hard and bright - ee, it's all coming back to me now!

PJ sending hugs. Pleased the migraine has passed.

Caramel, when we were kids we used to toast bread on the coal fire with a long toasting fork. It tasted good. This smokeless coal is strange. It doesn’t crackle or fly out the fire it just burns, does send some heat out though.
