Excellent intro Mags!

I'm in for another sober weekender - my 380th (I think)

Welcome Britbird, welcome pline!

Sorry about the death of your partner Kaily but you can be really proud of the nearly four years you have been sober.

Oh that is sad MLD .

Leshar I am sorry you lost your husband, so difficult. And thank you for the kind words.

Thanks for the condolences. I only mentioned it as it is part of my story. We spent a lot of time together but didn't live together, it wasn't perfect and time does heal.

I’m in! Just got out after an unexpected week in hospital with a feeding tube as I can’t eat or drink but glad to be home. Nothing like your own home and bed!

Big hugs to everyone and much love xx

I hate saying "sorry for your loss" because I've heard it too many times...

God/ universe bless you and your family.

I think we'd all "stop" if it was that easy

Thank you, Mags!

My bleeding ulcer started acting up yesterday, maybe why I haven't felt well lately. I'm trying to just rest and avoid going to the hospital if I can. Two years almost to the day was when I had surgery for the original bleeding ulcer. Ugh. I'm monitoring my blood, taking my stomach meds and avoiding acidy things, ESP alcohol!
So glad for my sobriety. I don't underestimate the power of anniversaries of certain things!!
Love and peace to all. 💖☮💞

MLD, sorry your missing your dog so much, it hurts to lose them.

Good to see you here, Lila!

least, hope you are settling in.. did Billie arrive yet ?

Manta, so glad you popped in with your update. It IS good to sleep in our own beds. Hospitals are no place to rest, for sure.

Aly, I didn’t know about your ulcer surgery before. I’m so sorry it’s back. Yep, avoid acid stuff, take your meds, and practice reducing that external stress, eh? Hope you feel better soon.

Big hugs, all…..

🤓❤️

For months and months I've been trying to convince myself that, yes, Saturday afternoon beer o clock really is the way to go. Finish a few leftovers Sunday night, decent meal and wake up into a new sober work week.

Never worked of course. The weekends just blurred into the 'working' week, then it was the weekend again and then I'd been drinking for another month.
And on it goes....
So, I'm here to try and get through the first sober weekend in a long time.
Sat afternoon is the worst bit.....I think of it as the Silent Saturday....streets quiet outside, lonely isolated in here. Beer o clock will cheer things up a bit. Won't it? Well, no, it doesn't.
So this weekend....hour by hour if necessary and sober Monday too.

Aly sorry your ulcer is acting up take your meds and don't eat the wrong food.

Billie is supposed to be here within two hours. I can hardly wait to pet her smooth shiny fur and feel her kisses.

Pleine, so good to see you here.

Last weekend, I think……. It was sober tools? Anyway, search, advance, threads, ‘Weekenders’.

Each week, dear Mags puts forth a thought provoking, and thereby recovery enhancing opening post.

The one on sober tools is especially informative, as each of us came forward and gave our two cents as to some sober tools we’ve forgotten, let dust settle on them.

It’s good to review what we have, maybe what others use too.

Some:

Water on the outside (showers, wash the dishes, wash the car, bicycle, water the garden)
Water on the inside. Drink WATER. Sometimes urges are brought forth by the body’s thirst mechanism.

Clean a junk drawer.
Watch a comedy
Watch ANY engrossing movie
Take a walk
Take a bikeride
Call a friend
pet a pet
write a letter, or thank you note, or journal
Cry
Laugh
Read a book
vaccuum
make a nice dinner
eat junk food
exercise

ANYTHING. ANY THING, BUT YOUR POISON.

Aly, take care love, I hope the flare up settles down.Be kind to yourself, you’re precious.

Marty, it hurts from the lump in the throat to the tears in the eyes. Our furry family leave a big gap in our hearts. take care.

Free, very helpful post. It’s a good reminder for us all there are other things to distract us if the yearn for booze gets too much.

Least you must have Billie with you by now. Give her a big hug from Aunty Mags. (And a big gentle hug for you too.

The house sale is moving on. Not signed yet but it’s imminent in the near future. I’ve my hand operation coming up on 06th June so that’s going to slow me down a bit. It’s at times like this I could do being an octopus. Get stuff done twice or four times as quickly.

Love to all Weekenders xxxx

Glad you are back home, Manta. I bet your cats were pleased to see you.

How exciting Mags, moving to a new place. Unfortunate timing with the op. Mr Mags will have to be your hands whilst you give supervise .

Aly, take care.

I am pleased to say I have been excused from Jury service and have now lost a stone!
