Sober Weekend - Weekenders 08 - 11 November 2019
Morning all looking forward to a sober day
Hope you're feeling better soon Mags.
I had a drink of protein shake the other day, and since then have started feeling much better, maybe coincidence but I'm having some more today. Maybe a juicy steak would be a good idea too

That's the one thing I really watch or I won't get enough protein. Seems my preference runs to carbs carbs and more carbs if left to do what I want. Which is always, so there is that.
Tetra, nice to see you.
This flippity flippin' cold is almost gone. I think. I haven't been out of the house in four days. Mags, I hope you're not getting sick.
Flu jabs, got mine a month ago. . . along with a couple other jabs that are recommended now that I'm officially old.
Then a couple nights ago I watched a Netflix "Explained" documentary with Bill Gates popping in a few times and the documentary was about pandemics and how it's just a matter of time and how the world economy will crash (again) and I wish I had not watched that. The Bill and Melinda foundation is working on a remedy for it which is good - but still. Thanks for giving me something else in the front of my mind to worry about.
My pro advice? (that no one ever asks for) Don't watch Netflix "documentaries." Which I already knew.
Could be any day now on the eagle eggs.
Tuesday, and very cold here. Unseasonably cold, it was 3 degrees (F) when I woke up. It only got up to 12 degrees yesterday. Today should be a little better, but still way below normal temperatures.
I might have to leave work to go take my little doggie to the vet today. I'm worried about him. He won't eat, and he really doesn't want to go out to do his business. He's hiding and shaking a little - panting sometimes. He's in pain of some sort, I can tell. This happens every so often, and usually resolves itself after a day or two. Pretty sure he has arthritis, and the cold weather doesn't help. Several visits to the vet have revealed very little in the way of answers or help. I feel mean for not taking him right away (it's been 3 days now) but I've been down this road before (over $400 in September to find out they couldn't find anything wrong with him) and it does usually just get better. So I'm giving it some thought. He did go outside briefly this morning and he drank some water and took a bite of food.
Work is finally slowing down some, and I feel less pressure on the home front for now also. I am trying to refinance my house right now (have to, to finally get my ex's name off the deed and mortgage, long story why that hasn't happened yet) and finally got all of the necessary paperwork and proof of income and assets turned in on Friday. That was a stressful process. Now just have to wait to see if the loan is approved. Should be.
I didn't make cottage pie last night. It seemed too involved and I was tired. So it was beef and broccoli stir-fry instead. I'm still craving cottage pie, though. Maybe later this week.

Marty I hope your doggy is soon back to his normal self.
Beef and broccoli stir fry sounds pretty awesome.
Bim, I went for my flu jab and they wouldn’t give me it, until I’m better. So I’m home resting now.
Thanks for the link to the eagles can’t wait to see the young ones.
Vinny, hope all is going well.

Great to see you Tetra, I hope you are well.
Sending positive vibes to your pooch Marty. Poor chap I hope he gets better soon.
For some reason I got my flu jab in early this year, had to pay for it though. I had my cholesterol checked at the same time and it came out pretty good at last.
Still at work here and likely to remain so for another half hour at least
I had a job once where I looked after sheep in the mornings and did international espionage in the afternoon. I was a shepherd spy.

Morning Weekenders
Saou, I haven’t heard of World Kindness Day, but it’s got to be a positive! I looked it up and here are some pointers.
I’d like to add stay sober....so we’re capable of then showing kindness.
Ooh! I’ll bring the donuts.
Celebrate National Random Acts of Kindness Day:
Compliment at least 5 people. (Be original)
Let the person in line behind you go ahead of you.
Leave happy notes around town.
Babysit for a single mom for free.
Sit next to someone who is sitting alone at lunch.
Help an elderly neighbor take out the trash or mow their lawn.
Write your siblings a note about how much you appreciate them.
Take the security guard a hot cup of coffee.
Leave your server a gigantic tip (especially if they weren’t great at it).
Bring a box of doughnuts to the custodians at school or work.
Leave a thank you note in the mailbox addressed to the mailman.
Send a card to someone serving in the military.
Hold the door open for someone.
Do a chore without being asked.
Give a fancy chocolate bar to the bus driver.
Bake your favorite cookies for a neighbor.
Donate warm coats or blankets to the homeless shelter.
Call the grandparents.
Surprise some friends with dinner. (Drop it off, don’t stay.)
Find someone who looks like they’ve had a bad day and give them a gift card. ($5 for coffee or ice-cream would make anyone’s day!)
Go through the drive-thru and pay for the car behind you.
Clean up the classroom for your teacher.
Donate gently used toys to a charity.
Put together and give away homeless bags. (Listen to Carlos Whittaker explain this great idea.)
Smile at everyone you see.

Rather suspicious that a musician posts that it is National Hug a Musician Day.

Happy Wednesday (and World Kindness Day). I've been lurking on the thread as usual - thank you all for the updates.
I thought I'd share last night's little adventure. I visited the local shop where I used to my booze and have been avoiding for a while. A year ago I went there and bought a bar of chocolate and a beer. The shopkeeper sighed and said 'that had better be the best chocolate in the world' shaking her head. I knew what she meant. Yesterday when I went in and bought chocolate cake (and no beer) she smiled, said 'how nice to see you' and as I left give me a knowing wink... Sometimes its the little gifts of sobriety that make me smile.
Anyway, back to work. Warm wishes to all. Forwards.
