Weekender Thread 18-21 January 2019
Some great exchanges above.
Taooo, my drinking and the toll it was taking on all aspects of my life was of serious concern to me for at least 15 years (I had been drinking for about for 28 years, but only the last 15 or so had been problematic).
Although I remained a bit insecure in early sobriety (and approaching 9 months this time round it still is early) I remember a tremendous feeling of relief the moment I was sure that I had made a serious decision to do something about it.
Fortunately I never really got into drugs other than alcohol. Still I somehow find the subject fascinating and read up on it a lot, especially reports written by those who have experimented with (and in many cases became addicted to) those substances.
I have done a lot of reading on a website called Erowid, and if you haven’t yet, you might want to have a look. It has what is called “Experience Vaults” containing many thousands of reports by current and former drug users, dealing with their experiences. Many of the reports are extremely well written, and you’ll find many accounts detailing individual roads to addiction and recovery. I find those reports inspiring and helpful, even though my problem is alcohol.
I must warn you though that the site claims to be objective and unbiased on the topic of drug use, so you will find some reports that claim a positive experience. In my opinion though, it maintains a good balance and it’s a case of “you make an informed decision for yourself” depending on you as an individual. As with alcohol, some people can handle certain drugs, but if it creates a problem it requires action.

Morning Weekenders. I have seen the lunar eclipse. For once the sky was clear over London (which meant it is below freezing outside) Good stuff. I would never have been able to get up at 4.45 if I was still drinking.. Coffee time...
Was up at 5am and got to see the super blood wolf moon! Sky was clear as a bell and saw the eclipse disappearing on my way to work. Good to be sober! 6:43am nowand will be at the pool for 7am for my morning swim.
Have a good day people xx

Good morning to all the weekenders. I am hoping for a level day emotionally, dealing with some worries about my Dad's health for the past couple of days has been tough, but I am beginning to feel a bit less stressed. Today's holiday gives me some time to focus on the positives in my life before I have a hectic following few days. It's always good to come into this thread and hear how others are faring with the simple and the complicated, a place of repose for the days off.
Thanks Dee, point taken and no offence. Even though it helped me I guess one should always keep in mind that people and how they may react to the same thing often differ.
Guener, dealing with ill health of a parent is never easy, so thinking of and support to you.

Loved the moon last night - well worth staying up past my bedtime!
Many prayers for your Dad, guener, and for you.

Happy MLK day to all you Americans! I know long weekends are tough but hang in there, it'll make the regular weekends seem easier I guess.
Glad work's over for another Monday. We are not that busy which make the days pass slowly.

We are savouring what seems to be the spoils of this morning’s lunar eclipse across the northern hemisphere. A big, bright yellow full moon that looks more like a cheese than I have ever seen before!
Have a good Monday wind down Weekenders.
