New Years Weekender Thread 28 December 2018 - 2 January 2019
Hi There!
I'd like to welcome anyone new to SR and new to this thread.
Weekends can be a tough time - especially holiday weekends -and that's what this thread is about - support.
We also share bits and pieces of our lives and the things that are important to us, or make us laugh..anything that makes the journey a little easier
If you've never jumped into a weekender thread before - no time like today...do it now!
New Years is always a time of introspection and new resolutions - I hope everyone gets the year they want this year - staying in recovery is the best way I know to make that happen !
Best wishes to all :
D

IN!
Four years ago I was about 24 hours in to my last and worst bout of sustained drinking. I was intending to drink until New Years Day but my body gave out a day early. Of course I don't know for certain but that fact may have saved me from permanent damage or worse. If you are considering quitting drink or using in the New Year then don't go mad this week like I did back then, you need to be alive to quit.
You can quit too. I was 54, had been binge drinking all of my adult life and was getting through a minimum of half a bottle of whiskey a day, more at weekends. There will have be people drinking more or for longer than me but I was pretty far gone, the "trick" is to take action to reduce the cravings as willpower alone is not sufficient. I will post about reducing cravings early next week on the main forum .
Anyhoo, enough serious stuff, I hope people had a good Christmas. I am fortunate enough to have until Wednesday 2nd off work.

I’m in! I never go out NYE, haven’t done for years as it’s just too busy and everything is double price!

Thanks Dee.
And congratulations on 4 years Saou. Xx
Not particularly looking forward to NYE... but will work through it as usual.
Will rummage in my toolbox to get through...
Feeling a bit unsettled and wish Mr P didn't partake... but that's my issue not his.
AV activity... sometimes I actually think it's me that wants a drink ...
Big hugs xx

Morning all.
Congratulations Sao.
I look forward to your post also being both a binge and whisky drinker.
Went jogging for an hour this morning.
Feeling good. 26 days since my relapse.
Going to do it right this time.
Take care weekenders.

The drinking dreams are still making rounds. Last night, in my dream, I watched myself in a mirror drinking. Disgusted with myself, I continued drinking while watching, no control. People I bragged to about not having any problems staying sober were there too. I tried to get them to join me. I'm so grateful it was just a dream and I'm still here with my SR family.
Thanks for putting this up, the Christmas weekender thread gave me a lot of support. I've changed my schedule at work and will now be working 12/31, then have IOP that night. Figured that would be better than sitting at home and thinking about lost plans and opportunities. Looking forward to all the inspiration and hope I read in here.
Sao, I appreciate hearing your story! Don't apologize for getting serious … I'm here to do some serious work. I really identify with individual stories, and also learn from others suggestions for staying sober. So thank you!
ST, I've never had a drinking dream, although I know they are very common in recovery. And it seems like lots of folks are having these dreams over the holiday season. Perhaps sparked by ads for alcohol and being around more temptation than usual.
VMan, I am so proud of you for your hard work. You are an inspiration. Hang in there …
Purps, your little cartoon started my day with a smile!
Hello Hoot, MB, Petals, Dee, Dafunbra, Phoenix, Willow (how you doing; I'm thinking of you!), Andy, Sober, Guener, Manta, Eve, and everyone else on this journey with me.

Hi, weekenders.
Thank for the New Year thread, Dee!
Congrats on shotgun, Andy!
I wrapped up the block of my sessions with the therapist today and feel like i finally got a closure on some very disturbing issues.
So, for today is peace, idleness, movies, reading, SR and whatever I want.
Welcome to all new weekenders!
See you later)
