Commentators just told a very interesting story about the goalkeeper of Iceland team.
At some point no team wanted him and he spent 5 years out of work. So he kept training on his own and during this idle time got another profession - learned how to make ad videos.
After a while he became the best advertisement director in his country and directed Coca-Cola commercial for the World Cup.
Along with that he finally got back to playing soccer and now has two successful full-time careers.
What really amazes me about this is his self-confidence. For five years no one believed in him, but he believed in himself.
I can't even believe in myself when other people believe in me.
Let alone if for five years no one was interested in hiring me.
Where in the world do guys like him get self-confidence like this?

Calmself - there is no reason whatsoever why you should leave.
Recovery is a PROCESS. It's a battle. It's a war. It's lots of challenges and ups and downs.
Sometimes it is filled with moments of despair and hopelessness.
That is why it is important you stay close to people who've been there and know it can be done if you keep going, learn from experience and stick to a solid plan.

Well, I know where I got mine....from my Russian grandparents and great grandparents...all of them were Russian/Polish....mostly Ukranian I think...the pogroms sent them to the UK...Scotland and England.....my dad's mother never even had a birth certificate....they had to run fast and just fled with their children and the clothes on their backs.
I hope you don't leave calmself, this thread is about helping people to quit, you do not have to have been sober to participate and I suspect people only join SR because they found giving up was hard. It took courage to post and that shows you are serious. You can do it.

calmself...you've stated before that Friday and Tuesday are your drinking days.
I think if you are going to quit drinking, Friday and Tuesday need to have locked-down solid plans that keep you busy doing something other than the old routines.
I changed everything. New people, new activities, maybe try some of those great local AA meetings on Fri and Tues afternoon/evening. There has to be some plan. A cooking class, a guitar class, a softball league or bowling team, volunteering on those nights. Change the view.

Yesterday there was a promotion party and I had to go at First and Bell. I just stopped with 1 beer since I had to drive back home 20 miles. Just near my house, I decided that I should 'really' celebrate. Went to a local pub and had 2 pints of strong ale, watched a movie again at home with 1 more pint and slept off. Since I had no internet, I could not even ask for support here.

No need for sorry here. We know how difficult this is. We do this together.
It’s that first drink that we just can’t have.
You are here and that is all that matters now. Shore up the holes in your plan and move forward.
