Holiday Weekender for Christmas 2016
Tetra, luv - I hope you get outta there relatively unscathed. Family sniping: uggghhh.
Coldfusion: what a very handsome cat! very striking in that jester's collar, all those rich colours against his / her black fur :-)
Phoenix - yeah, I increasingly go for these really old-style cards. If you google Australian Christmas Pictures - and scroll through the tat and dross, you'll see some like this one from the 50s and earlier. One more recent one has a Christmas tree shaped 'clothesline', with all the beach gear hanging off it (cossies, flippers, thongs, etc). Very sweet.

Off for a nap. Before my bedroom gets too hot (faces WNW, and it's all heatin' up out there - lots of brickwork driveway just past the slim verandah, it pumps out the heat as the day goes by).
Will likely have my Christmas prawns / ham / potato salad a bit later - rather like the old Christmases with family, when it usually didn't make it onto the table till about 2 or 3 pm. SUCH a production. And then everyone fell over and had a sleep, while the women did the washing up.......

Everyone has left. Pheww. Have to admit I enjoyed it tho I'm bagged. Not half as bad as my anxiety was expecting it to be. I can't believe that we use to host Christmas eve, Christmas day AND boxing day dinners for various family factions. I have no idea how my wife pulled that off, frankly I don't remember 'cause I was always drunk. My wife gets my gratitude tonight and I'm cleaning up to show it. Told her to get into her P.J's, sit down and relax.
Brain, great post!!
BeMyself, my hobbling is going to get me out of dish duty tomorrow night, taking full advantage of it.
Kids are making silly videos and tracking Santa on NORAD, only my youngest still believes, and his sisters are ensuring he has a magical Christmas Eve.
Sounds like everyone is doing well.

All my guest just left had a great time.....we had bottles of wine out and my brother in law was the only one drinking I asked him to take home the opened bottles because nobody will drink it here so he did.
I had a great time better than if I was drinking.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.

Aaah, Sober T-D, now there was my point from the past: the women doing virtually all of it, well, in those days....and I fear, often still today. You're a champ, sir, for stepping up to do the Great Clean Up yourself after all these years (while you wife mutters to herself, in her pj's '...and not before time!' :-))
'Family factions' - beautifully put. Yeah, the lead-up to, and executing of, Christmas in many families is not too dissimilar to extremely tense and delicate diplomatic negotiations between nation-states.
Glad it went off well for you.
Delilah, I'd forgotten about NORAD tracking Santa. I wish we'd had that kind of thing back when my girls were little, long before the internet. Mind you, it probably would've been me on it - having been a somewhat tech nerdy child as a young gel: I remember sitting on the floor next to the big old bakerlite radio, infinitesimally moving the tuning dial on SW (shortwave) until I found a glimmer of something from Russia and the like. Absolute amazement.

I really hope you found some help SAH.
In a lot of cases there's not much more that I can do but recommend the local ER - especially at this time of year.
They may be able to connect you with some help?

Hi, weekenders.
Gloomy at my part of the world.
I am having another anxiety attack, just can't think about anything.
Have a good sober Sunday, everyone.
