Good work, SIS! What do you think of the counseling/coaching part?

Excellent progress SinS
Tell us more about the sleep therapy--insomnia was one of my
biggest issues in early sobriety

My thoughts on the group

Hevyn and Groundhog: I'll be honest. Group drives me batty. I get nothing out of it except irritation and insult. Some sessions are led by trained counselors who obviously have no firsthand experience with addiction, and seem to lack insight. They are talking heads, preaching, and they offend me.

It seems like group is simply a holding area to reduce my discretionary time.

That's where I am with it today. I reserve the right to change my mind. :-) I hope I do!!

Sleep Therapy

Hi, Hawkeye. The sleep therapy is like... Well, you lay face up on a massage table with straps around your wrists and ankles. You wear headphones, and listen to a sustained musical pitch for about ten minutes. Then a different musical pitch for about ten minutes. And then a third musical pitch for ten more minutes.

I think a lot of people would fall asleep lying there in a darkened room, but I'm not one to sleep. However, it puts me to sleep and I've also found that I'm falling asleep easily at night and sleeping a long time.

I don't know how it's supposed to work but I'll ask and report back what I find out.

I need some sort of sleep therapy that will stop me from waking up throughout the night!

Here's Day 5... (BIG NEWS)

I'll talk to the woman next week who administers the sleep therapy and get more detail on the science behind it to share here. I was a complete skeptic, but cannot deny the amazing improvement in my sleep.

Today, I had only the IV protocol -- 4 bags consisting of NAD, amino acids, B vitamins, and glutathione.

Slept 7 hours, BP has returned to normal, temperature is normal, heart rate is still high. Energy, concentration, and mood are excellent.

BIG NEWS

Got the first of the labs back: Liver function is normal. Kidneys are normal. No sign of diabetes.

Heading over to meet with my counselor now. I need to be honest with him about my non-desire to participate in any 12-step-like groups. They were part of the cause of my previous relapses. I'll need a different form of support when I return home.

That's where I am right now. I'm on four weeks sober today, and this week, I have been waking up about every half hour and trying to find a comfortable position and shut my brain back off. This happened last time I dried out, so I'm not surprised. I also meditate for about an hour every day, so I'm more rested than if I was just sleeping poorly. It should turn around, but I'm always looking for new, non-medical or herbal sleep support.

I'm also interested in the sleep therapy, I've had sleep problems pretty much my whole life. There is no way that I could do the wrist and ankles, I have ginormous trust issues.

Very happy to know your tests are good. Such a huge relief, I'm sure.
Being able to sleep would have been such a blessing in the early days - I had a terrible time too.

Good for you SIS! Great news. Big relief I'm sure about your numbers. Amazing program it seems.

Yea I'd be really leery about my hands and wrists tied basically. I watch too much crime tv and too many crime novels !

Good luck and keep posting. Keep an open mind about the 12 Steps. Maybe something will be different this time.

A couple people cited this fear. To me at least, it does not in any way resemble being tied up. I have complete freedom of movement. It's more like wearing bracelets/anklets. If my nose itches, I can scratch it. If I wanted to get off the table, nothing is restraining me.

This is all so weird and fascinating! I am thrilled for you that you are noticing a difference and improvement in many areas. isn't science/medicine/whatever interesting? Who would have thought that things like this could help? Keep updating and keep up the good work!

I wonder if the therapy has to do with hemi-sync?
Getting the two sides of the brain on the same pulse?

Day 6... OUCH!

Oy vay. The day began well. I slept well and awakened early, attended a 3-hour group meeting, and then went over for my IV detox appointment.

Well, a younger and less experienced nurse is working alone this weekend. I'm not an easy stick, and have probably ruined this poor lad's confidence forever! He made seven painful attempts to start an IV, and then had to phone the off-duty doctor for advice.

The doc asked me a lot of questions and then ordered a B vitamin/hormone shot for me, and sent me home for some light exercise. We'll try again tomorrow....with the same nurse (gulp!).

Day 7 (One Week Sober!)

Okay, today I am sure it's been a week, LOL!

I had just the IV therapy today. The poor lad who stabbed me seven times yesterday without being able to start an IV was my nurse again today. He called the doctor at home to get some tips, so he used a homeopathic sedative (which packs as big a punch as Xanax) and a topical anesthetic. I'm down here in the Bible Belt, so I also lined up a lot of evangelicals to petition Jehovah Rapha at the exact time the boy was to make his attempt. And guess what? Success on the first try!

And not to sound boring but: I slept well, feel happy and relaxed, and am super-excited to have procured some laundry detergent and quarters so that I can wash my skivvies in the dingy little machine here in the hotel. Small pleasures, you know!

Sleep Therapy

Hi, guys. I checked with a moderator to make sure it was okay to talk about the sleep therapy which seems to be helping so much. I started a thread about it here:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ml#post5747380

I'm not allowed to link to websites, but I left enough crumbs that an interested person could get some info if they liked.

Off to IV-land. Have a great day!
