My mind is made up
It is a very powerful moment when we say out loud to another person that we are an alcoholic. That was a defining point for the start of my recovery. Great job fellow Texan.

Your story sounds a lot like mine, my friend. Add to it that I'm currently unemployed and it feels even worse. I can't seem to function unless I've dumped 8-12 beers into my expanding gut, and sometimes more. You're certainly not alone. I've been a member for all of five minutes and can already tell that we all support each other here.
cp4eva, I hope you are able to stay strong. Many of us have gone through exactly what you are going through. We are living proof that it can be done. Stay focused, avoid the HALT triggers (hungry, angry, lonely, tired), get to meetings as often as you can, and, if you are still struggling, come back and check out the chat room or post here.
Remember, you are not alone. We are right there with you. Good luck.

If you feel like it, join us in the weekenders thread. It's a place where we can hang out with other people not drinking on the weekend. Topics are all over the place usually and just talk about what ever we are doing. Very laid back.

I'm going to my 2nd AA meeting after work today.
Welcome to the Forum!! You'll find loads of support here on SR!!
Get a plan in place for the evenings, decide what you're gonna fill your time with this, for me it was something simple in the beginning like watching box sets, online puzzles or going for long walks, whatever it is, some distraction away from drinking!!
You can do this!!

cp - I was exhausted & really dragging those first few days. We've beaten ourselves up rather badly & need to heal. Everything straightens out as we get used to our new normal.

Made the meeting, but I just feel like AA is not for me.
In no way will I badmouth them (nothing bad to say), nor do I wish to discourage anyone else from trying it.
I'm not trying to infer that AA is bad, I just feel as though it 's for me.
48 hours sober, though

Struggling today.
I've kept myself busy, but the usual dread of going to work (which I now believe was the alcohol) is getting to me. My AV is loud today.
At this very moment I am writing because I need some one to tell me not to go to the corner store and load up on beer.
Sober since I put the beer down the drain hole on Wednesday, but struggling hard, right now.

Stay strong...beer will not make your work day any better tomorrow, only worse with a hangover! Do something else, go for a walk around the block, grab a big glass of water, something to distract you...even posting here
I hope you didn't cave cp4eva. It's never worth it, just a bit of relief for a little while - then there's hell to pay. It definitely gets easier - these anxious times don't last forever.
I told my AV to F off.
I went to Barnes and Nobel and spent the $ I usually blew on beers on a couple a magazines and sat on my balcony and browsed through them while my dog snapped at carpenter bees.
Today has been pretty white knuckle, but I'm still dry

Well done!! There will be days like that, but the more you tell that voice to bug off, the stronger you become. More success, more strength!
In the early days, sometimes I would be in bed watching movies by 5:30.
Keep thinking about all the chaos drinking caused - think that drink all the way through to the inevitable unhappy ending full of regrets, illness, less money, embarrassment, self-hatred - you get the picture.
