Why not go to that AA meeting after work? It helped me to go to meetings when I would normally be drinking.

Well, for me, I went to a couple a day.

Cravings are just thoughts. They don't have to be acted upon. You are bigger than your addictive voice.

I fully intend to go after work. I will be home by 4:45 and the meeting starts at 6:30.
I am just worried about what to do with myself in the time until the meeting.

I take a walk for an hour every day. It focuses me on myself and Nature, and it is good for my body, mind, and spirit.

I plan on taking my pup for walks more often-I'll just have to find something else for today, as we're still getting some rain from Tropical Storm Bill.

LOL - I live in the PNW. If I were to not walk in the rain, I would only walk half as often. I have a rain jacket, I just get wet for an hour. How long has it been since you walked in the rain? It's pretty cool.

Of course, I grew up in FLA, I know the rain there in combination with a tropical storm can be torrential. We mostly get light rain.

It gets much easier cp - we promise it won't feel like this forever. The early days are rough, but things will change. It'll feel so good to be free of it.

You were smart to dump the beers, having wine in the house would be my downfall. Maybe you can head to the meeting early and walk around in that area to clear your head before. You can always hang out on SR if you need to kill some time.

I made it to the meeting.

I was hard, but I HAD to tell someone I am an alcoholic. I did and it was a huge weight off of my chest.

I'm going back tomorrow, desire chip in pocket.

Yay! Congratulations. You are on your way. Oh, you can go to many meetings a day. On Fridays there are usually a lot of meetings, and this being a holiday weekend, some places have meetings 24/7 (Father's Day.) In my area, we have lots of Friday night Speaker meetings, where you just listen to other peoples' whole story of recovery. Did they give you a meeting schedule?

Now what? Is it bedtime where you are? Have you joined the Class of June thread here? Check it out, here's the link:

I have a schedule and will be going back tomorrow.

Not bedtime here in TX, yet. I cam home, cooked REAL food and did a load of laundry.

I have to go to the store for a couple of things, but I know I can stay away from the beer section. I WILL stay away from it.

I'm worn out, but sober. Made it through a full 24 hrs without a drink.

I feel beat-up, physically.

I am on Day 1 myself, but I have done 5 days in the past and I can tell you for sure that it won't take long to start feeling alot better if you take care of yourself and dont drink no matter what.

Thank you for your posts, your will power to beat cravings is inspiring.

After finally falling asleep around midnight, I woke up 4 or 5 times during the night.
I have not had ANY alcohol in my body since I poured that last beer down the drain, yet I felt like I had a hangover before I went to bed and when I woke up this morning.

Well done on Day One. That's huge

Sleep is elusive in the early days. I treated myself like I was recovering from a serious illness, because I was. I found that when I woke in the middle of the night, a cup of hot chocolate and a little time on this site, and I could start feeling sleepy again.

No matter what happens, don't pick up that first drink and your whole world is going to change. It is going to be uncomfortable for a few weeks, just hang in.
