I would give them the ability to calm themselves without alcohol.
The ability to relax without alcohol.
Actually I would give them the awareness that they already KNOW how to do these things; they just have to practice.

Relief from guilt. Forgiveness of self. And above all, the soul I nearly lost.

I would give them the ability to know that no person, no situation, nothing is as important as their recovery. Put no obstacles in the way of staying sober.

I always wondered if it was possible to be happy without drugs and alcohol; now I know that a sober life is the key to freedom and real happiness.

Self love. Knowing that you deserve to treat yourself with love and respect. There is only one of you. You are worthy.

I wish it were possible for newbies to view this from a distance. I remember when I started, quitting seemed like a huge sacrifice. Now I can see that recovery isn't about giving things up; it's about getting things back.

I was so miserable the day I quit. It might have cheered me up to know it was the luckiest day of my life.
