I would tell them to believe in themselves, exercise body and mind, and believe that sobriety brings self esteem, self-confidence and empowerment.

I would give them the feeling I have today.
Of astonishment.
Astonishment that it was possible, after all!
Sheer astonishment.

Genuine confidence. Something I used to have to get from the drink now comes within myself. What a gift

The thrill of realizing that voice in my head telling me I need to drink can be ignored.

I would give them faith...
to believe that what the people who have gone before them are saying, is true.

I would give them the ability to be a good parent to themselves.
Good parents teach their kids that valuable things are worth working for.
They teach their kids that they just can't have everything they want when they want it. They teach kids to watch for danger and avoid it and if they can't to yell for help.
Those abilities are what I wish for newcomers.

I would give a newcomer the focus to keep sobriety first in mind before anything else.
