If I could, I would give a newcomer the lasting self respect that sobriety has given me.

What would you give to a newcomer from your sobriety?

The ability to let little things be little things and the understanding that they're ALL little things.

feeling of self respect and worth, because I don't run and get drunk and high. I don't need to. I don't want to. I like being a person who doesn't run to drugs and booze. I like being a person I respect.

I would like to give the newcomer that is now sitting in the early morning with his or hers head in their hands, filled with regret and shame and sickness, the knowledge that they Can choose a better way one day at a time. The knowledge they can choose not to drink Now, and string those days into a beautiful, peaceful life.
