Here I go with my points again

1. That drinking does not make irritating people any less easier to be around. It just eases their company for a while, but then they are super irritating while you have to put up with them while having a hangover.

2. Drunk gatherings are dull.

3. Drinking made me lazy. All those hours sat around drinking I did was just time wasted. It made life harder as I just brushed everything under the carpet, never dealt with anything as all I could think about was my next drink.

4. Drinking alcohol made my teeth really, really sensitive.

Sasha4, I have to agree with the lazy, though I haven't broken that habit yet, I have improved upon it.

I am able to differentiate different emotions a lot better than before. I can now also feel pain and joy a lot better than I ever have done.

Now that I am sober, I have noticed that my husband rarely drinks anymore. He never was a heavy drinker to begin with (3 drinks a week, maybe), but now it's more like 1 drink every couple of weeks, if that. Sure makes it easier for me to stay quit. :-)

I just realised that when my mum looks me in the eyes and asks me if I'm ok I can say yes and not be lying.

So true and refreshing. My standard response now whenever someone asks how I am is to say "better than I deserve!". That usually gets them thinking and truly is applicable to me in a couple of different ways.

Having more hours at night to read...

Seeing more of nature through clear eyes...

I like how my hair smells with my new coconut shampoo. My banana smelled so strong to me this morning. My dog needs a bath. He smells a little like stale popcorn. I love that I can smell better now.

waking up in the middle of the night to smooth, clean teeth.

I always passed out before cleaning my teeth at night when drinking

I can comfortably break wind, without the imminent risk of filling my pants with foul smelling runny excrement

Falling asleep and waking up instead of passing out and coming to.

Recently, finally, my sleep has returned to better than normal.
Oh my God, it is priceless.
To sleep perchance to dream!

I can now smell alcohol from clear across a room. I remember when I was drinking, that I wouldn't think my wife could smell it if I ate something or brushed my teeth before talking to her. Really eye opening.

I always wake up now knowing what day it is and knowing everything that happened the night before!

I like that occasionally I remember the fear of running around trying to get the next high and then realising I am sitting down on the sofa watching tv without a care in the world.

Mine would have to be when my kids hug me and tell me they love out of the blue. Also when my mom tells me how proud she is of where I am now. For so many years she prayed that I would be in God's hands as she feared I was going to die of this disease.
