I work for a mulinational company, so I will have to see if they have any kind of policy on this. I'm basically going to have to admit I lied to my boss's face. Anyone had to do this in a large company?

I've been at a new job for 4 months now and when I relapsed and had a bender, I was completely honest with my new boss (who is also the owner, a tiny company). He was awesome about it, accommodating and understanding. It was a huge relief to me and alleviating one source of anxiety.
Thanks Abgator,

I get on OK with him, but I don't really know him well enough to judge how he will react.
Cheers,

Andy

This is my main hurdle because I dont go out alot otherwise where I would be drinking. errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
I struggled with that for a while as well. I initially started drinking regularly because of an issue with social anxiety when I was younger. Then I discovered that alcohol helped me get past that. And when I did conquer my social anxiety issues, I kept drinking for enjoyment and habit. This is years before it became a problem. When I finally did get sober the first time and also no longer had access to xanax, I was very paranoid about going out and doing things sober. So much that my paranoia almost caused the anxiety...self fulfilling prophecy. But it will pass. It's all in our heads and we can conquer it.

Oh i'm not anxious about going out in general. Quite the contrary. I dont take any drugs other than high blood pressure med. I am just worried I will /do want to have a beer when golfing just out of habit and cuz its always been what we do. Seems everyone drinks when golfing. Not paranoid as much as just concerned/undecided that I may want to drink while there. Beer carts, friends, fellow golfers, drinking.

Similar principle. Your activity is tied to your AV. While I have no problem going anywhere now, it's still a habit for me to want a drink before certain activities for the same reasons you listed.

I just avoid them for now, until I'm confident I can attend without caving in.

Yea, that seems to be the best method. Since they are busy anyway we are not going. I'll do some yardwork instead even though that is even a bigger trigger if you will. I always drank alot doing yardwork but I did doing everything. If I dont do those then I will just be sitting around which I drank alot doing that also. I do yardwork almost daily so yardwork it is. And a nice home made lemonade.

Newday - I would never disclose my drinking issues to my boss or anyone else at work. Regardless of any laws etc it is too easy to be used against you. It is my private business. As long as not drunk at work and have to explain or anything-that would be different of course.

Had a mixed day but survived and really tired now as slept badly last night.

I hear you re the triggers Abraham....I really really struggled with that. I needed to avoid some things and change other things up....as was mentioned earlier....so new zaps happen in our brain....for example....make a pitcher of iced tea or something that you like and take it outside on a nice little fold-up table with a glass.....and drink that as you do yard work. Then that new habit can form in your brain....the association becomes appealing.....why yes I will do yard work and drink iced tea....awesome!!

Just my thoughts. s

Hope you are all having a good sober weekend. Been very busy today and this evening so not had time to post or catch up! Got through a work do sober and didn’t even feel like I wanted a drink. Seeing drunk people around me reminded me of the good decision I have made to be sober.

Day 18 here. I have woken feeling hungover and have a headache, not sure when I will actually start to feel good, I guess I can be thankful that I haven't a migraine for awhile though..
I am going to a watch a documentary at the boutique cinemas tonight with my mum, cousin and aunty, it's about the story of scotch whiskey. I had wondered whether to go but it's related to my heritage as my grandfather is from the Isle of islay in the hebrides which is where the documentary is made and we have all been there, so I decided to go, I am the driver as its over in the next town.
This will be a challenge for me as the cinema is a restaurant also and we are going early for drinks and a snack and these family members are my wine drinking buddies but I guess I can't avoid hanging with them and I don't really want too either..
At least I have some days behind me, I wouldn't have been able to do this in the 1st week..

Pretty sure my dad's side of the family is Scottish. Wish I knew for sure. I have done the DNA and years of research, but still........ My mom's side came over from England. Probably why hemochromitosis runs rampant through our family. All our children have it as my wife's family is from Ireland and England.

ABGator-If the picture is you, you're quite a bit younger than me, but I live in Gainesville as well. Go Gators!

Oh I live in Scotland 😀 I can translate if you like 😀 ' ya ken ' is used daily in these parts. Usually at the end of a statement or question and means do you know what I mean do you understand?

The first time I heard it I thought they were talking about a person called Ken 😀

I would like to join this class please. I am on Day 2, having had countless Day 1s. I've come to the conclusion that I can't do this on my own, having mistakenly thought I could. That was based on the fact that I did give up alcohol completely in 2013 - for 19 months - until a fateful occasion when I was out to dinner with friends in 2016. There was the offer of a free bottle of wine with dinner and since there were only two of them, they were going to regretfully decline (they drink only one or two glasses at most on any occasion I've seen them) so I said I'd join them so we could get the free wine. Huge mistake and entirely mine. That was over 3 years ago and if anything my drinking is more out of control than it was before I stopped in 2013. I've been reading through various SR threads and it seems to me that it is both entirely supportive and completely non-judgmental. I am optimistic it will reinforce my resolve and accountability.

Hi Rose! Welcome to the June class :-)

I'm on Day 13. Again, up early. Making the most of my weekend. It's crazy when I look at the comparison of all the weekends spent drunk. I really wouldn't want to go back to that. Oh and my Fitbit has told me that my heart rate is.today sitting at a good 70bpm. (Not 88!)

Thank you bodrop and Zombie. I read through the whole June thread before I joined so I know about your progress. Congratulations! I've stated too late to catch up with either of you of course but hopefully will also start to clock up the days.

Hi all

Day 6 - sleeping better, but still vivid dreams - maybe they are just what dreams used to be like before I used alcohol to get to sleep, it's been so long since I didn't have alcohol induced sleep. Feeling much more refreshed today.

Still got pretty bad shakes though at times and a few muscle spasms, but these seem to be reducing.

Good luck to everyone today.

Andy.

Hi everyone
Welcome to the class Rose

Hope you feel better soon Red. I woke with a migraine today, hence the delay in posting. Some fruit, meds, a walk and now resting means I do feel better but not 100%. I have my next gym session tomorrow and think half the problem is my body is still in shock from the last time Sure it will get better.

Have a good Sunday everyone
