It is strange the things that trigger us Carlos. I know that I can no longer use my former drinking vessels for anything any longer as they bring up decades of memories.

I am glad that you are finding some clarity in your thinking concerning the youth hockey situation Glee!

Congrats on finishing the paper Gilmer. Good luck on your continued efforts Courage!

Up at 2:20 for work, then attending my wife's company Christmas party tonight. Her company is composed of six employees, so it is noticeable if I am absent, like last year. The party is held at a fancy steak house, so I will have a good meal at least, while ignoring the multiple fancy bottles of wine that will be constantly uncorked tonight. I have to work pretty early tomorrow morning also. Such is life. Wah wah.

Have a great day all!

Way to go, Gil! Bet it feels good.

Carlos, have a great weekend!

Star, enjoy your steak!

Not sure what, if anything, our boss is planning this year. We usually go someplace nice for lunch. Guess it all depends on what Fran feels up for this year.

Have a great Friday, gang!

How are things going in general for Fran, FBL?

Enjoy your steak, SG!

I see her quite often. She's in generally good spirits these days. Her daughter is really taking good care of her.

Yippee, Go Gilmer!

Carlos, never any Florida home-grown ladies?

I keep the cup I drank from most (when it wasn't straight from the bottle), but I don't use it. For some reason I don't want to toss it. I keep a pair of my mother's favorite cocktail glasses, too. Weird, huh?

Nobody's home-grown in Florida! It's all transplants.

I'm generalizing. I grew up there, and I'm sure people were born there. Maybe they just stick to their own. I know there is quite a bit of snobbery around "snow birds" (from both sides.) I had a BF who claimed he was a native, but he was adopted, so not too sure how much I believed him.

Now I live in WA where there is the same snobbery, only it's the other way, about transplanted Californians.

Congrats, G.

My son-in-law was a proofreading BEAST, and he helped me more than anybody I can remember!

I spent last night and this morning incorporating suggestions and fine tuning—then I TURNED IT IN ten minutes ago!

Then I filled out a couple of course surveys, then the completion form—and THIS CLASS IS HISTORY (no pun intended)!

We had a mere three inches of snow yesterday afternoon and it took me two and a half hours to get home. Only to change clothes and head back out again for my wife's company Christmas party. Just more stress to deal with at a hectic time of year.

I enjoyed a good meal, but I haven't sat around around a table of a dozen people drinking heavily for awhile. It was a constant round of toast after toast. Ironically, the people on both sides of me knocked full wine glasses over and I sat sat hovering over a wine stained tablecloth with fine Cabernet in my nostrils for hours. One person even asked why I wasn't drinking. After knocking a full goblet over and spilling some on me. The irony.

It really became a bore being there watching people drink and drink. And talk constantly about drinking, what they had recently drank, and big drinking stories. I forgot how much drinking consumes the mind of people whom drink. They are very nice and apparently hard working people, but it was sad to see how much alcohol played a role in their lives and took up their free time. Of course, I was on their side of the table most of my life too.

One more day today and then I hopefully get to sleep in until at least six tomorrow. The long slog towards Christmas continues.

Best wishes for a great day all!

Star, sorry that you had to put up with the all that drinking. I try to avoid those situations like the plague, but whenever I am around it, I find that it actually reaffirms my current situation. So many wasted years spent drinking. I simply cannot afford to waste even another second on it. So glad that I put a stop to the madness when I did. Stay strong, my friend!

Gil, glad you've got your son to proofread for you. If you ever need help in that department, just let me know.

Have a great weekend, gang!

That sounds ghastly, stargazer! Don't think too much about it. Put your sights on something joyful

Hi all,

Mind if I join you? I’ve been lurking a while on SR, but with Christmas just around the corner, I really think I could do with some extra support.

Will be 2 years sober (again) on Feb 1st, and am beyond grateful that I got to get another run at sobriety after slipping and sliding for a while.

Life is pretty good now, and I have so much to be thankful for, with a wonderful family and friends. It’s been a difficult journey to get back on the right track since my last relapse and I’m not going back to that dark place again in a hurry!

Good to see so many familiar faces here 😊
