One Year & Over Part 47
Suze - Freshly fallen snow is beautiful. Enjoy.
Stargazer - Glad you weren't terribly affected by the snow, and got to enjoy some time at home - although shoveling/snow removal is a very loose definition of a way to enjoy yourself!
There was a statewide travel ban today, but at work senior management encouraged my staff and I to go into the office today if we could. Some made it in, but I worked from home. I was in a bit of a funk all day and didn't make time to enjoy the snow. Identifying I am in a funk is helping me get past it.
Have a nice day everyone, no matter what the weather.

I hope I never get too jaded to enjoy the thrill of watching the first flakes falling!
That said, when it occurs as you are driving across a mountain range on the 'wrong' side of the road in the pitch dark pulling a trailer as I had to coming back recently through Spain, -not so much 'thrill' as white knuckle drive!

Toots, belated congrats on 4 years sober (meant to mention it yesterday)!
No more snow for us, just cold. It's only 15F here this morning. Suze, if you love the snow, just wait til you get a full Ohio winter under your belt
Happy Hump-Day, overs!

I love the snow as long as I can stay snug inside . I know lots of people who love winter sports and other activities. We had around 24 inches of the white fluffy stuff. This morning is breathtaking - brilliant sunshine like we often get after a good snowstorm, pure white snow on the ground, cars and roofs and quite cold. It doesn't get more magnificent than this.
Glee, as far as those down days, I'm now finding that even when I'm down, I no longer feel like I'm "stuck" in the bleakness. I know it's part of the rhythm of life and I am accepting that I won't be happy every minute and that I will have good times, too. Works for me.
Toots, that drive doesn't sound like much fun!

Suze, and
Toots, congrats on four years! Truly amazing and inspiring for me seeing so many live their lives without booze. I never take it for granted, after reading so many sad stories here on SR.
Feel better Glee! I'm sure the moving adventures are weighing your soul down a bit. Hopefully, you can bounce back quickly. As you said, realizing that you are in a funk is the key to riding it out. We no longer can just turn to the bottle for a quick attitude adjustment, which never worked anyway.
Just a degree or two warmer here FBL. I think my one bed of daffs and forsythia that were just starting to bloom are now toast. Fortunately, I have multiple beds of daffs around the yard, so I will have more color later. They are one of the few flowers that deer won't eat down to the ground.
Speaking of spring, my 19 yr old Honda six speed riding mower needs more repairs than it's worth, so it's time to shop for a new one. Any recommendations from folks? I have 1.25 acres and a sand mound to cut and tons of flower bed and fence line to cut around. I also don't have a garage so it has to be able to be driven into a storage shed. I am looking above the Home Depot/Lowe's entry level pricing, but not commercial/farm grade. Maybe $2500.00 range. I want something that will last and need to find a dealer who will help me keep it running well.
Keep warm everyone!

Hi, Overs!
Busy with life over here. My grandmother is in hospice, so I am going for a visit. This isn't an easy task, having to miss an important weekend event of my son's, and very complicated travel plans to get there quickly.
However, this is an important step in my recovery. When I was in the midst of getting high or drunk on a daily basis, showing up for life's events was something I made every excuse in the world not to do. At the time my reasons seemed plausible to me, maybe others... but the bottom line was getting stoned, drinking, anxiety, hangover, do it all again the next day was my priority. So, this time I'm putting on my big girl pants, suiting up and showing up.
My grandmother has had a rough life and struggled with alcoholism for plenty of years. The doctors are making her comfortable. I may or may not make it in time, but I will make the journey and be with everyone else in the family who is grieving.
Love to you all and know my thoughts are with you, know matter what your ups and downs are today!
