Checking in So far, so good today! Went for a morning run and the weather has improved dramatically! Not a beach day as the tropical storm has the sea looking angry but just lazing around and catching up on some good reads! Everyone seems to be respecting my sobriety stance and the drinking that is going on has slowed to a reasonable pace....
Windancer, welcome, and yes you absolutely qualify ( more than me, I am an Undie-graduate and come here to offer support and prove it can be done! Love the Avi btw!
Good to see new faces this thread can get a little slow for a while and then starts jumping, but the support and advice here is tremendous. It kept me on the sober path toward my first soberversary and it's why I keep coming back to do what I can for you guys.

Simplicity - Great to hear you are feeling strong and rooted in sobriety during your vacation.
Van - Hi! nice to see you!
Winddancer - Welcome! Looking forward to reading your posts.
This thread is wonderfully fluid with people posting, sharing, commenting on each others' posts, having a conversation about recovery.
The mutual support I found on this thread sustained me during my first year of sobriety and beyond!
Have a great sober day everyone!

Checking in. Today's been a little rough. Still not beach weather here (damn tropical storm) so lots of excess time on our hands holed up around the house. Not feeling like I'm fitting in well sans alcohol and my AV is going a little wonky. I want a beer, I don't want a beer. My friends want fun Sim and I want to feel fun. Ugh.
I felt pretty dull in early sobriety, but was in a lot of social situations with booze with my sons' travel hockey tournaments.
It's hard to be fun when I'm depressed! It took some time healing before I started to feel present, cheerful and happy.
I promise, booze isn't necessary to have fun. I have learned how to be the sober fun version of me, and the best part is that the sober version doesn't include the icky baggage from drunk version. I remember everything the next day, who I talked to, what I said, what I did, and where I fell asleep.
Addiction is powerful and will do anything to reclaim you. It's perfectly ok to be a non drinker. You are indeed good enough for your friends when you're sober; maybe think of the ways the sober you is even better than the drunk version?
Enjoy your friends, laugh, eat good food, enjoy the change of scenery, do something fun like a day trip, sightseeing or shopping, or something relaxing like reading a good book, playing a game, or booking a pedicure or massage. Or go to an AA meeting.
Keep reaching out, too. For me it was a lifeline during the early days, and often made the difference between barely getting by and embracing life.

Thx for the much needed encouragement! I know there is a balance to be found somewhere here. Just got beamed In the face during a beach volley ball game.....it broke some tension and induced a lot of laughs (myself included)! Think the knock upside the head was what I needed
Nite SW
Yes, finding out your fun without drinking is surprisingly an ok thing. It has taken me awhile to realize that. I also found out that some of them weren't really my friends after all. Yet some of them are just being kind to me and don't want to encourage drinking. I appreciate that a lot.
Hugs
