Hey everyone!

I absolutely LOVED "E,P,L"...I think I've read it at least 4 times! I can't believe that they are making a movie of it though....I was very disappointed and will not go see it...

Anyhoo, I am thrilled to be traveling the road to sobriety with all of you! Welcome to the thread Rosa and Enlatmak (sorry if I screwed up the spelling!)

Asta1 - Read that book and totally identified with it; I could use to read it again. I remember when I read it, I felt like 'oh..THAT'S what it's like to actually enjoy life, enjoy food, enjoy a spiritual relationship...without making the enjoyment burdened by feelings of guilt or insecurity or questioning...how freeing, no?

And thanks for the welcomes everyone - yea, I'm in a Spanish-speaking country right now - Mexico. Land of tequila and cervesa I'm living in a beautiful little colonial town in the central highlands, and am supposed to be studying Spanish. Can't lie...I've had to fake sick a couple days because I was a) too hung over, and/or b) took a drink in the morning to 'right' myself, and spent the rest of the day sitting in my casita getting loaded.

It's hard to be so hard away, and on my own, because no one really cares to keep me accountable, you know? If I wanted to sit here and drink tequila all day...only I (and God) would really know.

There are actually a TON of AA groups here - I've seen the signs - but they're all in Spanish, and my spanish is not nearly good enough to actaully conversate at a meeting (plus I hear the meetings have very few women, and can be a little rough around the edges).

I just got back from the market; when I started out I felt optimistic and happy to be out among the people. By the time I started home, I almost had to run because I was so afraid I'd stop off at my little store for just a 'small' bottle of something (ha ha - which would turn in to 3 or 4 more by the end of the night!) Thank God I made it home! And I'm planning on staying here the rest of the eve... Thanks again for the support all <3

A movie?? I hope they do a better job than Under the Tuscan Sun, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I actually saw the movie first and then read the book. Not a lot of similarity. Oh well. Wonder who they will get to play Elizabeth?

Thank you Carol, I appreciate that very much. Glad you had a great day!

Asta...Julia Roberts is the lead. A little too familiar for my taste. I wish it were more of an indie film with an unknown...I think that would have felt more genuine. Yes, I'm judging it before it even comes out.

I'm with you, Mirage...she's a very good actress, but.....

Carol...I want to take a moment to thank you, yet again, for all of your support, encouragement, tips and compassion. You are an angel, pure and simple!

Congrats everyone on another daily victory. Have a wonderful night's sleep...free of anxiety, remorse and self-recrimination.

See you in the a.m.!:ghug2

Good morning everyone. The sun is shinning here in New Jersey, finally the rain and wind have disappeared. Kinda like our problems, "This to shall pass" and a new day will dawn.

Welcome Enlata & Rose

Rose, those AA meetings you speak about in Mexico, give it a try, you never know if someone speaks English unless you go into one. The people are there for the same reason you are. Good luck.

Morning of sun!

Good morning everyone...
If you're in a place where the sun isn't shinning - I'm sending you some from Mexico. It's going to be quite the shock to the system when I return to Washington in the middle of December.

Thank you to everyone for the kind wishes and support - and 'believe', I do want to go to meetings...but I even get nervous when I use my Spanish to do grocery shopping!! Perhaps I could just say "hablo muy poco espanol", and sit and listen. Just being in the fellowship would make me feel love and support for sure. Keep ya posted

Well Day 3 for me, trying not to freak out about having a whole 'free day' ahead of me without plans (which is usually when I'd want to blank out the day by drinking...) Instead, I'm just gonna be open to what happens: take a walk? Maybe. Sit in one of these beautiful churches? Maybe. Search out an AA meeting? Ha ha I hope!

I only have 5 weeks left here, and I do not want to waste it being wasted. Here's to beginning to live and learn. Plus I'm sure my espanol can improve greatly w/out the memory blanks, hangovers, and homework done while drinking (complete with wine stains on the papers...yikes).

Love and hugs to everyone - and again, thanks for being here!

Rose

Mornin all. Hey, Rose. You will happy(?) to know it is raining here in Oregon, probably WA too. Surprise surprise. And the forecast is for rain and showers everyday in the 7 day forecast.
It is turning out to be one of the rainiest Novembers I can remember since moving here in 2001 from CA. So puleeze... try and send some of that Mexican sunshine up here, and if no can do, you better enjoy it while you are there! Don't make me come look for you! Never been to Mexico but my daughter has a few times. She has sent me some amazing pictures of some of the ruins there. Do you have access to a car? Can you go touring?
VC-Day 10! Next Sunday will be day 17, and Monday day 18. If I make it to day 18, I will break my personal record in many years. I'm hanging in there. Liquor stores around here are closed on Sunday so no danger there & hubby comes home tonite. After some housekeeping, think I'll settle down with Eat Pray Love, if its still raining. HaHa. Have a good day everyone.

Ah, the end of a sober weekend...way to go all of us!

Carol - thanks for the link to my other post I'm overwhelmed
with all of the help and support I've found in just the last few days.
So much for feeling alone by being so far away! It's amazing!

Asta1 - did the Mexican sunshine make it there yet? Hope so! I often
visit the Oregon Coast (in the summer ha ha) and have been to a few
AA meetings in Seaside, and one in Cannon Beach - are you near there?
And congrats on so many days of sobriety! I can't wait to get there too.

And EVERYONE thank you for making this my first sober weekend in
a very, very long time. Couldn't have done it with out (ok, well without
my HP working through all of you )

Hugs and love,
Rose

No sunshine here yet. It drizzled ALL day. Read the Sunday paper (including the big Xword-not the NYT one, I'm not that smart), did a bunch of housework, and read some from E,P,L. Got a pizza cooking in the oven right now. Husband is home & watching football. I'm not a TV sports fan. Works out OK tho. We enough TVs if I want to see something else. Often as not, I am sitting here reading or reading a book.
We are not really near Seaside or Cannon Beach. Do you know where Newport is? We are about 10 miles south of there in a little bitty town.

I have no doubt that you will continue your resolve to not drink. Heck if you can do it there, basically all alone, then back in WA with your support system (hopefully), it should be easier. You are in my (envious) thoughts. Enjoy Mexico!!

Good Afternoon(here anyway): Yesterday was another success. Yay!! Going shopping this afternoon at some outlet stores with my husband (I don't like driving and the stores are a ways away). Hope to find some holiday gifts and, if I find a really good bargain, maybe something for me too. What's everyone else up to today?
