I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Your euology is beautiful and I'm sure your brother will be smiling down at you when you read it. He sounded like a wonderful person who had a horrible disease. I hope you find some comfort knowing that he is in peace and is no longer suffering.
Hugs.

Jenny,
I am so sorry . Know that when anyone here looses a loved one to this horrible disease, it affects us all. We can feel your pain, Jenny. Hang in there, come back when things calm down a bit. Please take good care of yourself. Your eulogy is very beautiful. My prayers are with you.

So incredibly sorry to hear this news. May your brother RIP. I like your words about how the life of an addict is not a wasted life. Addiction can happen to ANYONE.
All my thoughts & prayers are with you.

I just want to say I am so sorry. My brother is also an addict and it is only he and I. This has been my fear for many, many years. I am happy that you and your family were blessed with a year of the real him. Again, I am so sorry.

Jenny, Yesterday I said goodbye to my big brother I found your words and wanted to express the most gratitude for finding and writing the words that I could not... I read a copy of what you wrote at my brothers memorial. Thank You.
Ryan was my older brother. I loved him very much and will miss him for the rest for my life.
The one thing I respected about my brother was his loyalty to his family and friends. He loved his family and would always be there for anyone who needed a helping hand.
He was also a very determined person. However, his determination to live his life the way he wanted unfortunately lead him down a self destructive path that we can only wish we could have somehow prevented or seen him change for his own sake.
Many discount the lives of those lost as a result of addiction. You hear things like, "We figured this would happen" or contemplate the "could have beens". Focus is placed upon the path to death vs. the goodness in the life. In every life there is goodness. In Ryan's life there was goodness.
Ryan was kind. Never mean-spirited or intentionally hurtful. As a child he was always "the adventurous one."
He was a son, loved dearly by his mother who refused to give up on him. Who stuck by him when others would have given up in the name of self-preservation. Her faith in God sustained her in this hope, just as we now hope for Ryan to finally have the true peace he never experienced in his life on earth.
He was a kind soul, but a tortured soul, battling against a demon he was unable to tame.
I just see him now, riding his skateboard in the clouds
Ryan is now at peace
