I love trains. I’ve taken quite a few train rides and enjoyed every trip. Some really beautiful scenery you don't get from a car. Lot's of backyards too, lol. I am not far from where the train passes through my town. In the warmer months in the middle of the night with the window open I can hear the soothing train horn music in the distance the conductor plays quietly at night as it comes closer then as it fades off as he/she is leaving. That is what makes it special, good memories.

Thanks for the live cams, nice to watch.

One of the abiding memories of my childhood and into early adulthood is from the sound of the coal train which ran every night taking coal and coal waste from the coal mines in the region to the coal disposal depot just north of my town. The railway line ran adjacent along the entire east side of my town and not too far from where I lived at the time. Lying in bed at around 10.30pm I could hear the train in the distance, approaching from the south as it got closer and closer and as the sound got louder until it passed within a mile of my house and then it headed off north into the distance with the sound fading away. It was largely the sound of a train running on tracks. I would say that I could hear the train for a good 20 minutes, at least, every night. I found it very soothing! The disposal depot closed around 35 years ago as the mines in the area closed but I can still hear that soothing sound in my mind when I think about it.

Morning Weekenders, well done Peke! These things are better sober.

I'm another fan of railways, the company I work for also constructs pantographs - the structures on the roofs of carriages that take the power from overhead power lines - so thanks for the livecams.

Steely, great post! Brilliant.

Good Morning Weekenders

Loving the live web cams!

Zencat, was your aunt's funeral parlour really next to the cemetery! Quite convenient methinks…maybe.

I lived across from a railway line when I was a kid. I knew all the trains destinations and times. The London train had the most carriages.

Once, in my twenties, I was travelling alone by train in Germany and was in a compartment with 5 other people all German understandably. I got out my phrase book as the guy across from me said hello. I attempted to speak in German when the guy and rest of carriage burst out laughing. He said to me ‘you will start World War III, with a smile on his face’. I laughed with them but no idea what I said…to this day. still gives me a chuckle when I think of it though.

Sun’s up! Might be a good day.

Have a good day.

Love to all Weekenders. xxxx

Hi all,
Lixie, you are doing so amazingly!

All the train discussion brought Paul Simon's song to mind, with the lyrics "every body loves the sound of a train in the distance ".
I'm a big train fan.

I also love the sound of church bells on Sunday. I'm struggling with flat/ low mood at present. The sound of the bells yesterday was soothing.

I hear you, Leshar. I am flat/down/blue at the moment too. Don't really know what is going on, and if I allow myself to think of it, thoughts of drinking are coming up. Don't like that.

Hi Lixie,
I'm trying to look at it from a brain/neurotransmitter angle. We've pulled away something the brain got so used to, it thinks it's necessary to survive. If we are patient and nourish ourselves physically and emotionally, we give ourselves the best chance to heal! A big hug. 🤗

Very glad for a sober weekend. My AC has been sneaking in lately and telling me things I'm trying not to listen to. Very grateful for my sobriety, sometimes hard won.
Happy Monday and have a great sober week.

I went to a very competitive professional conference where the modus operandi is drinking, Didn't drink. Got what I needed to done. Confronted a difficult professional situation that I'd been avoiding for years. Best and most productive time I've had at a work event for decades. Her's to SOBER WEEKENDS.
