How to fight yourself? Who and how you cope? I'm 41 drinking since I was 7 or 6, how can life get better when I don't know how to cope with this monster.

Any ideas?

I don't fight with children throwing tantrums, barking dogs, or the alcoholic telling lies in my head. I just take some deep breaths and do my best to clear my head of the noise. None of it can hurt me if I won't let it.

It's not a monster, it is just some broken bit of neurology that doesn't ever seem to know when to shut up. Weasel once told me to put it in a box and plug it's air hole if it kept on jabbering. It sounds silly, but I found that thought so empowering - having control over that voice!

I can't shut it up today, but I can shut if down. I have to hear it, but I don't have to listen to it.

There is only one way to shut it up. Starve it. Like a child throwing a tantrum, if you give it what it wants you will just get another tantrum. It can't be reasoned with, educated, shamed, or intimidated into submission. It must be starved.

You can do this!

I'm actually up now after poor sleep last night. This sleepless period will also pass, I'm sure. I'm feeling pretty good, on balance.

Sober revolution...yes. I am determined about several things...specific even to the rest of this week and the weekend.
-do my best at work as I'll be working off and on over the weekend
-be responsible and sensitive to family having some health issues
-get off my REAR and EXERCISE for more than ONE day in a row

Have a good solid sober day, everyone...I'm off to work now. Back on in oh...about 9 hours, if I don't get any breaks.

I am working and working out this weekend.

Since I mostly work from home at my new job it's up to me how to allocated my working time.

My boss is back from vacations on Monday, so he will probably want to see the first results.

I've finally found my swimming glasses and will continue working on my crawl stroke)

Also my therapist assigned me for emotional rehabilitation program, and I will start it on Wednesday , so I will likely make a Wednesday my day-off.

See you all.

And since we are playing French revolution theme, here's a song from my all time favorite musical (though I am not a fan of musicals) Notre Dame de Paris.

It's about being liberating, setting free and revolution.

Set yourself free of cage of addiction this weekend!

I'm in!

Thanks for the opener Saou, I kind of got lost and never made it back to the last weekend thread.

Looking forward to this weekend. My first vacation with my daughter since she's been an adult. Leaving tomorrow morning and heading up to the mountains. I don't believe there's wifi. She's also in recovery so this should be one awesome weekend!

Have a great weekend everyone

Just scheduled another weekend plan - stand up paddleboarding WITH MY DOG! So excited for this. Not sure how he will do. He loves to swim so I doubt he will stay on the board the whole time. Maybe he'll swim along side. Not sure. That's for sunday afternoon. It's another great activity that I'm able to afford now that I don't spend money on booze!

I'm in.

Came down with a stomach virus last night...up most of the night. This is the first time I've been sick in years! In the past I would have attributed feeling ill due to drinking too much.

Going to be laying low today, drinking ginger ale, eating saltines and keeping Kaopectate on hand.

Back to bed for me...

Watching my classmates melt down over grades and assignment evaluations.. makes ME want to drink. I would never want to be a nursing instructor. These girls.. these adult women who act like little girls.. can't take a piece of constructive criticism to save their lives. Everything has to be taken personally. They gave me such a headache today.

Welcome to Weekenders DyerMaker!

Soberandhealthy how you do it by telling youself, lots of times if necessary, that no one ever died of a craving. Secondly you can minimise those cravings my planning activities during those times when you know that you will be craving. AA often suggests 90 meetings in 90 days. I never attended AA but it is around about this length of time that the every day cravings strike (actually a little longer for me) It is mentally quite demanding but the reward is that after this time you will not crave alcohol every day, from time to time you will but once they become infrequent they are easier to ignore. You can do it too SaH.

CreativeThinker i'm sorry you are feeling off colour, hopefully you will be feeling better in time for the weekend.
