I'm more in the southern area. I love northern Maine though. Really looking forward to the trek up to Sugarloaf. No highway driving for me, I love the back roads and the scenery.

I really want to visit her but it's a 15 hour drive if all I stop for is gas.

Ah, put that radio on and sing it through! 15 hours is a hike but can you break it into smaller segments like 7.5 hours, stay somewhere, then another 7.5?

I hear you though. I've never done a drive that long by myself. I've driven 25 hours straight from Florida to Maine - 2 people without stopping to sleep. On the last leg of the trip I had been driving for about 6 hours straight and had to pull into a rest stop. It looked like there was no roof on the car and I could see the trees flying overhead. 50 miles from home and I had to rest.

Don't know if my 9 year old Chevy can tolerate the mileage. It needs to get me through one more year.

It's an unsightly piece of crap because I never took care of it and I can't wait to get a new (to me) one, but we've been through a lot together. I even lived in my car for a brief time. It's seen me through lots of life changes, lots of bad roads and various.. other dangerous driving conditions. Never one accident, in 9 years, however reckless I might have been. Okay I have tapped a few bumpers while parallel parking and pulling out.

Something about the pain you get from eating too much cheese?

Just back from amazing boxing workout.

Boxing is one of my sobriety "trophies" - I never knew I have it in me)

Now some chicory with cinnamon and company of Philip Marlow. I am not sure though it would be great read in early sobriety - he seems to never part with a bottle of whiskey. Ah, this literature-cinema alcohol romantization which has little to do with real life.

Time for no-alco heros.

Sober is new badass!

Ardy, your weekend sounds like a lot of fun, I enjoyed the Bastille Day vid.

I guess the state of Maine was named after the part of France with the same name

MidnightBlue many years ago I inherited some early edition "The Saint" novels by Leslie Charteris from my grandad They are not worth much but they have sentimental value as he was illiterate when he left Ireland and taught himself to read in his mid twenties. I struggle to read them myself as the lead character has about three drinks and smokes several cigarettes per page. Times have moved on.

MB I get a twinge of jealousy every time James Patterson's female detective character, Lindsay Boxer, takes a cold beer in to a hot shower after work, or has wine with her husband or has margaritas with the girls.. Now that I think of it, she drinks a lot. His male detective Alex Cross had a drinking problem.

Wow, have really enjoyed the newcomers board today...Soberwolf @ 4 years, a first camping trip sober, "relationship" with alcohol...a good day.

I just finished an ego-deflating but team-building work day. Happy. Satisfied.

My partner has surgery tomorrow morning. And I am THERE.

You're a very positive person, BB.

I have been contemplating a camping trip lately. I wanted to camp near the ocean but I will probably wind up cheaping out and pitching my tent someplace local.

My back loves sleeping on the ground, I feel so refreshed waking up in the fresh air without an alarm.. I may go to this one place local I've been before. I just loved all the tiny chipmunks that were everywhere running around. My friend and I just sat and read books. It was nice.

Well, thanks, BC. Have not always been positive.

I need to be upbeat for my partner, and I'm pretty sure everything will go ok.

The work /team-building thing...well there is nothing I can do about it. So I do hope for the best for the people I work with. I'll get an update tomorrow. We shall see.

BC...local sounds really good.

Good night everyone. Hitting the hay early, so I can be ready for tomorrow. I'm sure I'll check back in around 6-7pm on Friday.

Ha! I did a lot of camping when I lived in Virginia, and enjoyed it, but my experience couldn't be more different. I sleep on my side, and the hard ground gets my hips out of whack. Then when I wake up in the nice fresh air, my sinuses are congested and I can't breath. An air mattress and some Flonase helped

Vive La France. Liberté, égalité, fraternité!
At various times in the US, it's been fashionable to bag on France, but if it weren't for French support, the American Revolution may not have succeed, and the American and French Revolutions were very much cut from the same cloth.
Plus, France gave us one HELL of a deal on the Louisiana Purchase

Morning/evening, weekenders.

I have a mini-milestone today - 4 years and 9 months sober. Sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday.

Number 14 seems to be special to me - my BDay is May 14, my next BDay (getting sober) is October 14, and my new apartment is on the 14th floor)

After my Marseille business trip I got to listening to French radio - France Blue Azur. It brings more sunshine into rainy days.

I am thinking about starting to new Friday night routines - a date night. A date with myself) I don't feel ready for real dates yet, but arranging something nice for myself would be really helpful. I have to figure out what to do on a tight budget)

See you.

Morning guys.
I've had a busy week so far.... been on a first aid course for 3 days.
Then yesterday one of junior petals graduated from uni.we had a fab day.
Quite a bit of AV but I let it waffle on in the background trying not to interact with it. Even found myself chuckling in the pub as I realised AVRT is just that.... Adictive Voice Recognise Tecnique...... I was recognising.....did not need to listen....or go along with it.
Obviously I'm not going to allow any complacency but it was nice to feel I was doing ok.
Best roll out of bed and get to work. Chat later. Hugs xx
