It really does get better weekender 13-15 jan
Unfortunately I am partial to cake and pie
Petals, I am sorry you are still not well, I hope you feel better soon. The gratitude jar is a great idea
Happy Birthday to your son Marty and enjoy your evening
Really not best pleased at the moment, there have been some tensions at work between two departments. My boss has tasked me with mediating/getting them to stop and I am to take them out for a few drinks after work. I will be OK with not drinking but I know I will be asked why I don't drink. I never tell anyone at work the reason and mostly I never get asked .
Meh!

I was forced to sit through a 3 hours manual handling course this morning. I was fuming as I kept thinking of the mountain of work ay my desk.
Things got worse unfortunately as I had chosen a seat in the front row and he kept asking me to help with demonstrations. The 3rd time I was so fed up that I just told him the table was too heavy for me to lift on one side (it was!) so he chose someone else.
I bought a slice of something called "Bumblebee cake" on my way home.
I plan to visit a few shops at the weekend to see if I could get a new TV. I don’t need anything huge or fancy so hopefully it won't be too expensive.

Good to see you Middy!
Tetra, you could always check on sites like ebay for a used tv set as often people decide to upgrade after a few months (seriously). I had to go on a manual handling course once too. The former Mrs Sao once got sent on an assertiveness training course, the very last thing she needed
Well, the dirty deed has been done, we went to a local hotel and only one person probed me about never drinking. I basically pulled a face and blew a raspberry, well, there's not much you can do to follow up from that is there

Words of wisdom. Love these two lines:
"What's easy to forget is how much harder our lives were (or are) in active alcoholism and addiction. How much did we miss because we were too drunk or too high to participate in life?"
Being an alcoholic isn't easy. Sobriety can be that light at the end of the tunnel. We just need to change our ways of thinking and learn to deal with the AV.

THE CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY ASSUMED INTO HEAVEN AND ST. NICHOLAS
It's a bit of a mouthful alright so we just call it Galway Cathedral, but that’s the official full name of the imposing building that stands beside the banks of the River Corrib, on the site of the old city jail. At 145 ft high, the cathedral's dome is a prominent landmark on the city’s skyline.
The word ‘cathedral’ comes from the Greek word ‘kathedra’ which means ‘seat’. Galway Cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of Galway and there's an actual seat inside, in the sanctuary.

Wow, what a pic, Tetra! Otherworldly in a very physical kind of way.
Man. I am so glad to find most of you exactly where I left you. Sober and good company. Overwhelming.
My grandma hated the word "Man!" As some kind of expletive... "What does this mean, 'man'?! It means nothing! 'Man'! What do you say with 'man!' You say nothing! What do you say???"

Welcome to the Weekender Thread DesertTraveller! Keep an eye out for the new thread which starts on Thursday
Neat info Tetra, there is some irony in a cathederal being built on the site of a prison, tortured souls and all that

Ok...so from the flurry of posts from yours truly, you might guess that if I held off until now, now is when I would typically start.
INSTEAD... I am going to make dinner, do laundry, feed the dogs, and thank my higher power/lucky stars that today is better than yesterday.
I will check in with you all later for my bedtime ritual of "gratitude for pain".
Love ya!!

Why is it that whenever I make plans to stay in the city for the weekend, no one is ever free to meet up? Guaranteed if I had planned on going to the sticks this weekend I would be turning down invitations left, right and centre
I'm not sure if I have the courage to spend the weekend all by myself, although there is something I had planned to do on Saturday morning. I'll just sleep on it until Friday
